Feature Request : Transmog

Diablo 2 Resurrected being playable in 4K, players appearance does now matter.

As a player, I want to be able to transmog each item that has a visual impact on my character.

  1. Each item has 2 models : a] Natural model and b] Transmogged model
  2. The game remembers the appearance of all items that loot for the player
  3. In each city, a merchant proposes to transmog player’s items
  4. An option allows vanilla players to disable transmog (all visuals and merchant)

Transmog is solely based on items present in the game.
If items are realistic, transmogs will also be realistic.

I won’t be able to see you. I don’t think player appearance matters at all. Except maybe to those you are around.

I mean… character appearance, maybe. But way less than getting things to actually work as expected.

Absolutely not, please no transmogs, wings, pets and all the other D3 stuff, this is D2, we only do D2.

As long as I can control if it shows on my screen, I wouldn’t care. Otherwise, no.

Yes this, I would be open to it providing I have the option of turning your transmogs off on my screen, so if you want to appear like a fairy, only you can see it, that would be cool.

No thank you.
Go play Diablo III thank you.
This is Diablo II Resurrected, a Remaster of Diablo II.
Not a damn clone!

Transmog is fine, as long as I can toggle off the visual change on my end.

Transmogs would be fine, if they would keep the character of the items that are used.
The problem is that these things are usually spiraling out of control for at least two reasons.

  1. using transmogs on all items of the same slot (similar to d3) randomizes what you see on the other characters.
It might create more “content” with less work. But as a result of it you can transmog a crown with a shako model or something else, which - to me - breaks the immersion of the game. One of the iconic things of D2 is that you can easily distinguish player equipment by their looks. (and VV has even doubled down on it by giving unique items their own ingame models)
  2. if you are adding different transmogs for different items (e.g. different sigons shield transmogs), then there will sooner or later be a trend to create new transmogs that are more over-the-top than the original ones. Just look at the d3 seasonal armors. They are growing in the size of the shoulderpads, more spikes, more hooks, more, more, more. It would be similar if transmog/cosmetics made it into D2R. Maybe a sigons shield with a laserbeam in the middle. Or one that drops flowers everytime you block an attack.

So yeah, in a perfect world you would have different look-and-fields for every set, unique, runeword, even basic item.
For example a brushed steel sigons, a stainless teel sigons, a chrome sigons, etc. Something that is well within the range of the original set and does not stray away too far.
Something that allows you to make slight adjustments to your looks without completely changing your appearance.

But adding transmogs or cosmetics like that is alot of work and small visual changes are usually not enough incentive to pay for such features, which would eventually be needed to pay for the additional work.

There are no such things in Diablo 2.

Transmog is based on items present in the game.
If items are realistic, transmogs will also be realistic.

So long as I can turn off the transmog texture on my screen then I don’t mind if you want to change it to look like whatever you want it to look like, so long as I can turn it off on my end, would you agree that is a good compromise?

I think it is a fair mitigation option for purists, so they can feel the original game.

And there it is… As I thought, what you really want is transmogs to force other people to notice you, make you look different in other peoples eyes. I can tell this mitigation bothers you, as you use the typical “purist!” slander, got it.

So I understand now, you want transmogs so you can look different in other peoples eyes, not because you want to look different yourself. I’ve always really disliked people who want changes to force others to do a thing because they “want” it.

Purist is not a bad word.
It is a playstyle among others.
Just like Hardcore gamers.

I don’t like transmog, as it is just Fake. I can’t see, what people are actually wearing. Never liked the concept, probably will never like it.

In D2, where you cat spectate a player‘s gear, it is even more important, especially for PvP.

As long as there is an option to disable ALL transmogs, I am not against it. Still I am not for it either.

Then if you meant it in that context I apologize to you, but alot of people use it as a slander for those of us who want it just to be a faithful remaster, which is what we were promised anyway.

Changed for :

  1. An option allows vanilla players to disable transmog (all visuals and merchant)

The only transmogs that should happen in game are adding things like Natalyas’ cape on an assassin (for winning a certain amount of pvp arena games), or an arm band or jewel on your characters head, maybe even a soulstone in your characters head for killing ubers over 1000 times. Things like this that are earned. Not buying fairy wings for $5 like the dog water game D3 is.

In that case, sure, why not?

Such ideas would be additional cosmetics.
An addition to the original game.
Even without any property attached to it.
Why not, but it wasn’t the purpose of this topic.
