First, I wanted to say thank you to the developers that added the offline difficulty scaling for single player to consoles. This was huge feature.
My console is PS5.
My request is as follows: Add a checkbox or some way to keep the players setting across sessions on Console.
D2:R is a game of massive repetition with numerous loads. On the PC a player just needs to run /playersX to set the players. On console, the game settings menu is literally the furthest option on the furthest menu when you bring up the start menu. Let’s look at the number of button presses/stick movements.
- Hit the menu button which defaults to the Inventory (+1)
- It’s 3 Left or Right Bumpers to get to the Options tab (+3)
- Either left thumb stick to move the cursor to options or, if the cursor is in the default location Up on the D-Pad (+1) to select Options.
- One Left Trigger or three Right Triggers to get to the Game Settings tab. (+1)
- 3 Down Arrows (or hold Left Stick Down) to get to the Offline slider bar. (+3). If I’m in single player mode why isn’t this defaulting to the Offline slider being default selected?
- X-1 Right Button presses or hold Left/Right Stick to move the slider from 1 to X. (+1-7) The button presses move the slider faster.
Right now we’re looking at a minimum of 9 button/stick movements to even get to the Offline Difficulty scaling slider bar and then add 1-7 to move to slider itself. Further, most of these require left stick/d-pad. Literally, there are several Superuniques I can get to and kill with less button presses. For a game that actually requires massive repetition this number is not okay and actually encourages repetitive motion injury far more than going and fighting monsters will especially since there’s no real variance in the movement to get to the slider.
The reason I asked for a Checkbox (Something like “keep settings in betwen sessions” or some such) is because it’s a conscious choice and would put any responsibility for locking this setting on the player.
I did 1000 Pindle runs over the weekend and I’d wanted the slider at players 8 (for the additional experience, I’m only 94) however after about 50 of these I realized just how much of a pain it is to set this when you’re only going to be in the session about 30-45 seconds. Further, my left wrist and forearm tendon started acting up from just setting the offline players which it wasn’t doing when I wasn’t setting the players.
