about 32% more loot
if your run time doesnt increase beyond 30%, its worth
i personally love hydra, it is much more reliable on single target and stacking meteor under his feet works great too
for meph its great and if you have free respecs to burn, go for it, but i recomend waiting till you get yourself a vex for flickering flame+Fsunder before switching to hydra if you dont have any respec left
occasionally…
but the 1 in 102938827341829823475 chance of getting one of these uber rares make them basically non existent for 99,99178238728178% of the player base…
but lets say i found one Efool’s BA with everything in it, it rolled perfect…
what i gonna do with it?
stare at it for another 20 years?
list it for trade for some large amount of credits in a shady, bot lover, forgotten by god website?
try the niched pvp mode in a niched game?
try some direct rmt so i can get less than i make in a month of work? (i dont know how much one would go for real money, 10kUS?)
he can, but his odds aren’t great for it. act bosses aren’t a good source for high runes. you’re better off running 200-300 mf with him and finding the basic uniques. p3 is something like 95% chance to drop 6 items, p5 is 100% chance to drop 6 items. p3 is usually enough.
With or without MF, it does not matter when it comes to runes drop; players X counts though.
Anyway, it’s worth to kill not only Mephisto, but albo Bartuc, Wyland and the 3rd guy, also check the chest at the rear of the chamber; one meph run I got Arachnid Mesh from him and Jah rune from Bartuc. Other time the chest gave me Vex or Ohm, can’t recall exactly.
For rune hunt the correct setup is maximum damage to have maximum kill speed on maximum possible players count in minimum time, in high density zones(cows, Worldstone Keep, Chaos Sanctuary) or against mobs which are known to drop much loot (Travincal high council, council guys at Mephisto’s lair). Additional bonus - do it using a horker barb, especially against council members.
Mephisto is too stressful to farm due to Stygian dolls. They just mess you up bad, you blink = you die. On the rare occasion that I want to respec a FOURTH time, I do farm him, but only for the Essence of Hatred that only he can drop. Otherwise, it’s forgettable. The effort is too high and the reward doesn’t seem to justify it.
Around 200% MF appears to be the sweet spot, beyond that it’s a classic case of diminishing returns. See “Magic Find Overview in Diablo II: Resurrected Season 5” on Wowhead, it has a nice chart. The higher you pump your MF, the slower you can progress, so it’s definitely not worth it at all costs. The maybe only exception is when you farm Andy on NM for the SoJ, that’s the only time I went to 350-ish easily, because it didn’t slow me down noticeably.
Players is complicated, read it up, but in general, p3 is usually the recommended option, yes. And now I realized you’re playing offline, in which case the whining part about stygians is kinda irrelevant. Regardless, I think Mefi’s drops aren’t that impressive IMO.
MF doesn’t affect rune drops. If you’re aiming for HR, you should farm Travincal instead. See “Travincal Rune Farming” on d2runewizard, it’s an excellent article with specific numbers and a calculator too. With cold Sorc, it should be a breeze (eventually, maybe not yet on 78 ), but because of Icefist, you’ll need a sunder charm, and because of that, you’ll need excellent resi charms as well. For Travincal, obviously focus on fire, but the surrounding minions can throw both cold, lightning, and poison at you as well, so if possible, improve on those too, probably in that order. Nice, welcoming setup, eh?
I personally LOVE orb, it’s extremely satisfying to use, but the damage is just not enough, especially for immunes (even with sunder and maxed out synergies + cold mastery), and it also lacks range. So I eventually switched to maxed out blizz (and synergies) and only some orb from the remaining skill points. Blizzard damage is ridiculous, but sometimes it just WILL NOT hit an enemy that stands in one perfect spot, so in those cases, even a less potent orb comes handy to deal with it.
speaking of HRs
as mentioned
the super chest behind him has good odds of rolling a high rune compared to any other source, the higher the player count the higher the chance
i would add that killing the council members there is also worth if you can do it quickly
but have in mind that you gonna increase your run time
so basically you would be trading less odds of uniques from meph for more odds of HRs from chest+council
Yes, it’s the same chest type like these in Lower Kurast.
You can even cheese the drop from it, after killing Mephisto and eventual vampires near the chest on low players count use “Players 7” command to get better loot; just don’t forget to lower players to usual value before you’ll re-run.
