Failed game creations on EU server?

Hello dear travelers of the Sanctuary.
Recently I have more frequent errors when trying to create games for MF on EU server.
I am not creating them faster than I normally did before.

The famous: An issue occurred while communicating with the game servers. Please check that you are connected to the internet and try again.

Anyone else facing this? I have checked all kind of other online services and they seem to work fine for me.

Up and running here. Central US, a few short hops away from the central backbone that runs through Chicago.

There must be a line outage or something.

There are recent problem spikes on AT&T and Verizon, slightly elevated problems on Spectrum. Also a spike on TMobile. The slight elevation of problems seems to be affecting a lot of broadband carriers.

I have seen a few instances of not being able to create a game lately, however no issues once I’m in the game.

Thanks TheDarkJedi,

I guess they have taken more D2r server resources down, so basically degraded the game availability to save some money. Most big corps does that. It is very sad if that is the case as D2R still is the best ARPG out there in my opinion. If they gave the option i would put more money in this game to keep it going and ensuring better support and small patches and changes. At least just something for the seasons… :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I don’t think that is the problem. They float as many servers that are needed. More VMs can quickly spin up on demand… It’s all automated.

I honestly think we’re just dealing with a lot of “global unrest” because of “political reasons”. People mad, want to break things. DDoS attacks, etc. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Do you have actual knowledge of the internal setup for the d2R servers and infrastructure or are you just making a qualified guess?

I’m making an educated guess.

I suppose they could have a bunch of old Packard Bell 486’s lined up in a big warehouse with Raymond the Janitor looking at player/game demand meters and flipping them on as needed to keep up with the demand, then turning off ones that aren’t being used to save power.

So yeah, they automate things. Modern server hardware is fully capable of doing so. Has been for quite some time.

I know that you can still have full automation and scaled VM’s and cut down on said resources, that is how big corporations sometimes make cost cuts, and the end users will feel it, either in delays or unavailability. This happened in my company many times. Many times though the savings adjustments was rolled back when customers started to complain.

The server side instance of each D2:R game can run on the great great great great grandfather potato computer of what would be considered a potato computer these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if the server side could run on a Ti8X graphing calculator.

I ran the original game on an old Intel Atom netbook computer a while back for grins, it ran just fine. The graphics got a bit choppy when there was a lot going on, but it trucked along otherwise.
