/facepalm Chipped gems

I didnt know I needed chippers for upgrading runes.

Now Im up to 35 thul 2 hours later and have no chipped. should I just start a new toon and get them

lol wut. why would you need to make a create character? rolling runes is really a waste of time, takes way too many and to long to cube to the runes you want… but if you insist and really want chips just use a high level character and farm normal act 1 and normal cows not sure why you need a new character… personally farming my normal routes in hell drops enough chips…

I Was just trying to clear up some Inventory on mules, I Have No need for that many low lvl runes, They just ended up on mules.

then throw them away. i only keep 2-3 of each useable low/mid runes. once you start farming hell you should be getting runes above Ko at a reasonable rate, certainly more than needing to cube all these low runes lol

another situation where it proves diablo players have a hoarding problem and not a lack of stash space  don’t make me report you to TLC

if you actually want that character for later sure. nothing wasted then.

you get about a full inventory of chippeds by the time youre in act3 usually (walking it solo)

Thul runes easy to sell on jsp. Sold like 30x thul and 30x amn last week

These drop in Hell difficulty as well .

i usually just start a new char when i running low on chippies… neew char always useful for the socket quest

No need to restart a character though.

You can still find Chipped gems regularly enough even in Hell difficulty, especially in Act 1. I do Hell Countess runs often and I find Chipped gems here and there. I mean it’s not “raining” them, but to be honest the Chipped Gems drop rate MIGHT be just better maybe in Act 1 Normal, maybe (I’m not 100% sure if it is).

If it IS actually dropping more often in Act 1 Normal, then ok… start a new character, but no need to push that character past Act 1. So stick to the Blood Moore up to maybe Cold Plains, maybe do some Normal “runs” up to Burial Grounds and check in the Crypt / Mausoleum (where Blood Raven is located) and that should do the job just fine. No need to level up and gear up and re-play from scratch for that really.

And don’t forget the Gem Shrines, too. Sure, they’re sort of rare but they guarantee a Chipped Gem (and those Shrines can spawn in Hell too, of course).

The chip issue arises when you’re upgrading lots of runes, especially if you have help farming runes.

The old way of making a Holy Fire Chippadin is not as profitable as it used to be. The quantity of chips falling in Act 1, especially Dark Woods, Black Marsh, Underground Passage, has been VASTLY nerfed. I have a Chippadin with FRW and massive Holy Fire aura and if I get 1/2 dozen chips out of 4 Act 1 areas, its a good run. it doesn’t rain chips like it used to.

Your other place to farm the chips is Arcane Sanctuary on normal because of all the ghosts. You get a mix of chips and flawed. Again, clearing all 4 wings including the centers of each quadrant can net you sometimes a dozen gems. Other times, as low as a couple.

What I found best is to create a new character and do the first few acts of Act 1. Seems chips drop more frequently for lower lvl chars still questing.

You can always find more chipped gems if you go back to Normal mode and farm again.

The best character to farm chipped gems that I like to use is the HolyFire Paladin, as in normal he will just smash everything on the screen in 1 hit.

You just basically walk around and pickup everything.

got an entire mule full of chipped gems from that

Calling BS here.

Drop rates haven’t changed since the game released.

Absolutely no proof has been provided to substantiate this claim no matter how many spam threads get created.

Just because you have a run of bad luck with RNG doesn’t mean someone at Blizzard is tweaking a loot slider watching gleefully as you throw your keyboard across the room in frustration. That’s your paranoia.

This is the most effective way.

Inventory has to be empty of gems you might want to add. Otherwise the gem shrine upgrades the highest gem in the inventory.

I agree and it is just as I have always thought. I say since you can get HRs from cows, Trav, along with other places. Upgrading runes to the highest level is a waste of time and space.

You could always host cow levels on normal mode and pick up all the chipped gems. Everyone is just there for the XP anyways.l so if you have 7 ppl following you, the odds of a chipped topaZ dropping is largely increased.

I got so many thuls at some point I started joining the 7 player games with my sorc and just blowing through things. I was rushing as long as I got the Chippy topaz…

Then my Assassin died and I got more than enough chippies on the re-build.

I ran tombs act II in normal to get chips - pretty good spot. Also you can use gem shrines occasionally and turn a perfect gem into a chip.

You’ll be better off doing a few MF runs in NM or Hell, grabbing every single set/unique that drops, and create a Normal game called “Gear4 ChipTopaz”

don’t listen to these people telling you to throw the low level runes away

i have used the cub and worked my way up to Pul rune. i have one shared stash tab where i toss all my gems, and one where i put all my runes.

my general modus operandi with runes is, i toss them into stash until i have 4 of a rune. once i hit four of a rune, i cube up to the next one, so i always have at least one of a given rune on hand at all times. never know when i need to make a spirit, or a malice, or a zephyr bow, or a leaf staff, or a lore helm.

I’m just like:
I’ll make more room in my stash by combining extra runes. Get more stash space at the same time you get higher runes from unused items.

it’s like rings and amulets, save all those up and combine them to craft more rings and amulets. eventually you gamble all your gold to buy rings to craft lol
