I hope this post finds you all well and enjoying your adventures in the world of Blizzard games.
Today, I would like to propose a simple yet impactful change that could greatly enhance our gaming experience and contribute to a healthier in-game economy.
I urge you all to join me in supporting this idea and voicing our collective desire for a positive change.
The proposal is straightforward: it’s time for Blizzard to consider implementing a different random number generator (RNG) for map generation in our beloved game.
By making this small adjustment, we can effectively thwart the efforts of bots, cheats, and maphacks, thereby preserving the integrity of our gaming environment.
Why is this change important? Let me explain.
Despite the release of Diablo 2 Resurrected, it has come to my attention that some persistent botters continue to exploit the game using Diablo 2 Legacy DLL files and old game clients. However, it is important to note that implementing a change in the random number generator for map generation would significantly impede the effectiveness of these outdated bots in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
By replacing old RNG, we can disrupt the patterns that these cheats and hacks rely on. This change would level the playing field, making it much harder for malicious actors to gain an unfair advantage. Consequently, we would see a significant reduction in cheating incidents, creating a more enjoyable and competitive environment for all players.
Join me in supporting this crucial initiative. Together, we can make a difference and shape a brighter future for our game. Share your thoughts, spread the word, and let Blizzard know that we stand united in our quest for a bot-free and prosperous gaming experience.
Together, let’s dismantle the legacy of these outdated files and pave the way for a renaissance in our in-game economy.
There are open-source bots available for free on the internet, initially designed for D2 Legacy, but they still work in D2 Resurrected. These bots often come equipped with an autoplay system that can clear the entire storyline.
Imagine this scenario: with just a click of a button, hackers can start their bots at level 1 and have them play the entire game without any intervention. Can you see how much it would disrupt their activities if suddenly they couldn’t use these publicly available bots? The scale of this problem is enormous; thousands of bots can be unleashed alongside legitimate players on the first day of a new season, and no one needs to control them. They can complete the entire game autonomously. Do you still think that a few static maps, as you mentioned, would be enough to continue this behavior?
Ehh bots = income for Blizzard = D2R servers stay up.
TBH they don’t even effect me lol.
If you wanna fight bots, don’t buy their stuff. End of the day there will always be bots in D2 simply because there will always be bots in every online game. has been since the beginning of online gaming, and always will be. Honestly a waste of resources at this point.
people are running kolbots in new Diablo release and you guys say it is ok… wtf is wrong with people nowadays. It seems you spend more time on that forums than playing the game
I just don’t care that much about what others do with their time tbh. Just play SSF and nothing changes lol. They can bot til their hearts desire and it changes nothing.
TBH if you ask me the game gets pointless super fast if you include trading anyway. You get like 80-100 hours out of it, and you’re done.
Bots don’t affect me one bit either. It doesn’t hinder my ability to enjoy the game by myself and with my friends. I’m sorry the economy moves so quickly that it makes your 26 res viper worthless instead of being worth the jah & ber that you desperately want. Even if all the bots disappeared today, what happens?? D2R will never be a huge seller or ever see a huge resurgence in playerbase. This game was always niche for folks who can’t get into d3 & beyond.
Blizzard doesn’t want to kill the bots off in this game… They are the ones that keep this game profitable in the eyes of shareholders when they rebuy the game after being banned every ~6 months.
Us legitimate one-time buyers of the game? They only cared about us in the beginning. After the initial tidal wave of players buying the game, the cashflow from legitimate players stopped… Legitimate players are the “dead weight customers” when it comes to Diablo 2.
I mean that’s absolutely true, we are the dead weight. It’s kind of a sad truth, but without botters to ban and rebuy, and the whales willing to spend $3,000 to win a ladder… there simply wouldn’t be a game for us to play.
I see botters as a necessary evil myself. I mean I wish there was a world where this wasn’t the case, but you know, in the real one we live it… there just isn’t a happily ever after sort of solution to it.
That’s the talk of someone who’s buried their head in the sand and has accepted defeat.
Blizzard used to have a heavy hand on botters back in the young days of the original game. People would be banned within days, if not hours after running bots or maphacks with the game. The botters that were active were very few and far between, and they kept their bots well hidden from the public eye to prevent showboating people from leaking the bots into the open.
Then came those claiming that Warden was spyware. Laws were passed, and Warden couldn’t run all of the time anymore. The botters rejoiced at this news.
Then as more time passed, Blizzard found out they could make money by doing less work and only banning every ~6 months, that’s when it turned into a show.
Bots also provide cheaper pvp items for the community. Getting 100+ people with all 42+ life gcs would be insane if we had to do it ourselves. In this case, D2 = dueling, not magic finding, we did that when we were kids xD
If you want to get rid if map hack or map assist tools, Blizzard will need to implement “key landmarks” on all maps to help players know which path is the correct path to take.
Example Nihlathak has two landmark indicators that tell players which path is correct. This make the knowledgeable players feel empowered.
With regards to bots, bots fill a need where too much grinding is needed. Look at d3 drop rates. It killed the botting community for item hunting.
Bots are primarily used for level grinding which is not a thing in D2r. If you really want to kill botting, then the simplest way is to have drop rates improved to a point that the average player can get their jah and ber within reasonable play time. This would cripple the botting community because the only items they could sell for profit wouks be gg rare items.
It’s just realism. Like it or not, we do live in the real world, regardless of how much time we spend on D2 lol. The alternative is either no game to play, a subscription, or a game riddled with microtransactions. Bots I can ignore, microtransactions I can’t.
Hell I’d be fine with a sub as well tbh if it would reduce the reliance on bot sells.
Yeah, bots sure do make items cheaper in the game, for both PVM and PVP aspects of the game. All they do is turbocharge the progression of the game.
The purpose of games is to kill idle time that would otherwise be spent in boredom. Diablo 2 without bots provides an activity with plenty of opportunity to sink your time into.
PVP would be more diverse without bots. But instead, people are able to quickly gear up their cookie cutter builds, and it quickly becomes a stalemate, or rather a battle of the players skill and/or connection quality.
PVP is largely a joke in this game anyway… I never understood why some think it’s so awesome. It’s heavily gear dependent. Probably the driving force on why bots are in the game… OMZG GOTTA HAVEZ MY L33T PVP ITEMZ AS QUICK A POSSIBLE SO I CAN DESTR0Y PPLZ HEheHEHhEH!
PvP without bots would just be even more one sided, with RMT prices just being higher. Would turn it into even more of a whale v pleb mode. While increasing drop rates would kill the PvE side by ruining SSF.
how do you know all of this?
if it would be true, and if it would be doable for them, dont you think they had done this already?
Sure I’d like to have game free of bots and hacks, and even PvP would be much more skill depending and not gear depending. for myself, I would pay 100$ to a bot free game instead of 13$ and deal with . . . . !
Pvp is breakpoint dependent and with some gear yes, but 35 lifers vs 45 lifers is not as drastic. Skill level can manage that gap very easily, especially when we had more stun mechanics. Right now it’s a rock-em-sock-em. One damage puts you into immunity frame, where they can just respond with an attack.
Druid with 1 life vs necro with 1500.
Druid stomps necro, hurricane procs immunity before nado (and likely FHR)
Necro can spear back before nado is shot
Druid dies for no actual reason or skill from the necro, it was just RNG on when the cane tick procs.
Changing the RNG for map generation is one piece of the puzzle, but in my opinion, it’s a crucial and straightforward step for Blizzard to implement. All it takes is modifying one algorithm in the game to a different one. While this change might not eliminate all bots, it would significantly filter them out. It’s absurd that a bot freely available for Diablo 2 Legacy for over a decade continues to work in D2R.
The only way you will get rid of botters is to give the average player the same tools that botters have. An increase of drop rates and /players8 to lower the cost of items making it not worth selling is really the only way.
This won’t work. The bots today are sophisticated and using AI. It will adapt very quickly. It’s funny how a looong time ago in a gaming universe far away, the increase in difficulty and addition of immunes was supposed to solve the botting problem. Didn’t work just like many of us said.
