Explanation of no unique/set drop with high MF

There are sometimes topics with people talking that they dont find anything with high MF and I would like to explain on example why it might be:

I had 300% MF and it was quest drop from Mephisto Normal difficulty:

So someone might ask: Why I didnt drop unique or set with such high MF? Well, if you look at items Assault Helmet and Unraveller Head do not have set or unique versions so what is left:

  • Jo Staff
  • Giant Sword
  • Bastard Sword

all 3 can have unique versions, lets take it one by one:

Jo Staff:

Jo staf can have unique version but to drop it, monster of object need to have access to items from Treasure class 30 and level 36. Mephisto Normal has access to Treasure class up to 33 so can can drop base weapon Jo staff, but he has only level 26 so he cannot drop unique version. But as you can see on picture, durability is not increased so it was not unique roll anyway.

Bastard sword:

Bastard sword is similar case as Jo staff. Mephisto can drop base weapon, but unique version require monster level 35 to drop. It was not unique roll anyway as with Jo staff. How do i know that? You will see in my last example why.

Giant Sword

Giant sword is yet again same case. It does belong to Treasure class Mephisto can drop but it require monster level 31 to drop. So Mephisto doesnt have high level enough with his 26. But game actualy tried to give me unique version of Giant Sword.

Roll on Unique item was success but it eventualy failed because of Mephisto level and if that happens, rare item will drop instead with triple durability.

Final words:

Drop in diablo 2 is highly random but still follows some rules as you can see. Also not every drop is bad as you think as many items have various usage. The necro shield and Barbarian helmed werent good, but I could sell Jo staff for good gold, necro head too actualy. And I will keep Rare Bastard sword because it looks cool for low level dueling for a while, might be fun to have it on low level charger as it require only level 10.

Also Rare Balanced axe might be usefull for throwing barbarian so i kept it too. It had some enhanced damage, replenish quantity, increased stack and amplify dmg 5% chance on striking.

You know I’ve played this game steady since before LoD launched and never knew about the durability thing. I never really paid attention I guess

Somehow I doubt those people are farming normal Meph.

It doesnt matter, I just wanted to explain why is not there good drop sometimes.

Another good example would be Pindle Skin dropping a rare Spiderweb Sash.

Your explanation shows how items cannot drop because the monsters level is not high enough, explain why the same thing happens in hell.

it was on arreats summit if you ever used it. it explain high durability reasons and whatnot

This doesn’t explain to the people you mention in your OP who are probably complaining about Hell drops from Meph/Andy, who drops most uniques (not all though).

What your describing as making sense of what people perceive, while true, is probably not what people farming in hell are seeing.

People with high mf are not farming TC35 areas that literally cannot spawn the unique version.

What these people are actually seeing is just the nature of the game and that loot is random.

Also because some items dont even have unique or set version. Hell is exactly the same. Some items cant drop on hell meph for same reasons.

It’s a big thing at classic. Some items like Lance (25 dura) are only useable at pvm if they drop as f***** up unique with triple dura.

So when I get all blues and yellows run after run it’s because monsters in hell can’t drop uniques I guess.

No…it’s because you are unlucky :vulcan_salute:

Exactly … but OP is saying the reason we don’t get good drops is because monsters are not high enough level.

Please pay attention to what OP has explained. He did not say that.
He said that if you target a certain item and you don’t farm the right area where monsters have the right level and the right treasure class in their loot tables you won’t find it.

Yes he did lol, his post explains one reason you don’t get set/uniques is because the monsters level is not high enough.

No he did not. Maybe you need to pay attention idk but the post is clearly about why no set/unique items drop when you have high mf, and his example is normal meph.

Maybe not the best example. But the essence is the same as I told you.

As someone pointed out, a better example is Pindle. Despite the fact that he can drop Spiderweb Sash base, because he is to low level he cannot drop the unique version of the item: Arachnid Mesh.

So because Pindle can’t drop the unique version of spiderweb sash, that means you’ll only get yellow and blues from him? The post is supposed to explain why theres no set / unique items when you have high mf and it does not do that, it only suggests to try higher level monsters.

Here we go again… :))

Only if you are really unlucky…
To be honest I have nothing else to add to this subject. Sorry if it’s still unclear for you. From my point of view the thread is pretty straight forward and explains everything.

There is several reasons if you actualy bothered to read the topic.

I’ve read the post several times now trying to understand. Maybe you named it wrong idk but I’m still waiting to hear an explanation of why you get no set/unique drops with high mf. I’m thinking not many people take their high mf geared chars to normal meph and complain about drops.
