Blizzard will ban you for buying runes or gear or whatever from outside sites but still allow them to advertise even in Lobby? Holding a conversation in the lobby - which we all used to do back in the day - is impossible because of the constant ad spamming.
The spam bots/item selling websites would go away if people would quit whipping out the CC to buy these items?
I have.
It won’t ever happen though. Too many credit card warriors in the world who don’t have the time to play to win and would rather pay to win. The endless cycle of greed continues in its everchanging omnipresent form.
No they wont, this has never happened… Please provide evidence that someone has been banned for using an outside trading site. I wont be holding my breath…
People were/are banned for buying items from third parties… if the items were duped
99.99999999% of items back in the day, every item you bought from a third party was duped.
I’m not sure of the amount of the items sold now being dupes because the game has only been live for a little over a year… but people are actually still being banned for buying items if they were dupes. There has been several threads on here of people claiming that they were banned because they used a third party to buy items.
Huuuhhhh? When have you heard of people getting banned for buying? I’ve played this game for 20+ years, never once have I heard of ANYONE getting banned over anything that isn’t about botting or hacking. I paid for some items back in college and hell, I’m in a discord group with folks that happily buy from item sites all the time, no one has been banned… Blizz doesn’t really care that much about item sites just as much as they don’t care about d2jsp. They only try to stop advertisements just because of the constant spam, not because of the content. No different than gold sites advertising on WoW or whatever other popular mmo or arpg experiences… dumb thread
he is not saying that it actually happened
he is saying that blizz’s EULA authorizes her to do so
C. License Limitations. Blizzard may suspend or revoke your license to use the Platform, or parts, components and/or single features thereof, if you violate, or assist others in violating, the license limitations set forth below. You agree that you will not, in whole or in part or under any circumstances, do the following:
iii: Prohibited Commercial Uses: Exploit, in its entirety or individual components, the Platform for any purpose not expressly authorized by Blizzard, including, without limitation
(i) playing the Game(s) at commercial establishments (subject to Section 1.B.v.3.); (ii) gathering in-game currency, items, or resources for sale outside of the Platform or the Game(s);
(iii) performing in-game services including, without limitation, account boosting or power-leveling, in exchange for payment;
(iv)communicating or facilitating (by text, live audio communications, or otherwise) any commercial advertisement, solicitation or offer through or within the Platform;
(v) organizing, promoting, facilitating, or participating in any event involving wagering on the outcome, or any other aspect of, Blizzard’s Games, whether or not such conduct constitutes gambling under the laws of any applicable jurisdiction, without authorization.
Who cares whether he said “will” and whether it is in eula, it has never happened and ain’t starting now so thread is silly af… people expecting how d2 was in its heyday are sorely mistaken…chat is resolved by joining the majority of players in discord & d2jsp…
It wasn’t readily obvious back in the glory days thanks to the internet being incredibly young and not as accessible or user friendly, but there were in fact several occurrences here on these forums for D2R. God forbid I be able to find the exact threads but they’re there or deleted by now.
Either way, it definitely happened a lot back when I was playing upwards of 2000+ hours a year and is still happening but at a (seemingly?) less noticeable frequency now.
But as Hanz pointed out, possession whether traded or bought with your own money is against the rules and therefore bannable.
The big takeaways from the License Limitations:
These quotes basically create the language;
“If you buy items from a third party website, you’re assisting / are a component to the facilitating of illegal third party activities.”
It is wholly under the language set by these terms illegal to participate in the purchase of items through item selling websites and if caught, you will be banned.
If you are caught. Most people don’t get caught because not all of said items are duped - items that are easy to detect with their anti cheat utilities. Legit items will never be caught because they are traded to you with a legitimate channel - in-game trading.
The unfortunate thing regarding these terms is that people that manage to obtain duped items in-game without ever buying them with real money get screwed because their accounts are flagged as having illegal items. It’s a nasty mess, but thems the breaks. Appeal ban and hope for the best.
With more modern technology existing, they can detect botters and dupers a lot more easily and avoid false flags just by studying the habits of the holders of dupes and separate innocent players from people who more frequently have larger sums of illegal items… At least, that is the hope…
