Eth boots. Why?

So I was just thinking to myself “man I really wish I had another pair of nice War Travs for my other char”, and within SECONDS i tell you, another pair had dropped. Lo and behold, 50% MF ETH War Travs! Yay… NOT

Maybe I’m missing something, but could someone tell me if there’s a use for these? Why would eth boots even be a thing in this game? Did they originally intend for mercs to be able to equip other items, but scrapped the idea and forgot to remove eth option from certain items?

Makes no sense to me. Now I’m trying to sell them, and have had offers ranging from Ist to Ohm, with everyone backing out as soon as they realize they’re eth. Guess I’ll be vendoring them, unless anyone has a genius idea that I haven’t thought of yet… And no, I don’t plan on using them until they break. Would rather just transfer my non eth pair back and forth.

To make you curse the RNG gods for being so cruel. :stuck_out_tongue:

You could always use them yourself until they break. They wouldn’t be too bad on a sorc or necro who will rarely ever get hit. Here is how durability works: https://d2.maxroll.gg/resources/durability-quantity

War travs have 48 durability, and eth reduces that by 45%. So they have probably 26 durability if you round? Assuming 26 durability, and a 10% on hit to have 1 piece of armor lose a durability, and boots being weighted as a 1. You have a 1% chance when getting hit to lose a single durability point in war trav. So, assuming average RNG, they will last about 2600 hits. If you play sorc or necro well and stay away from stuff you rarely get hit, these could still last you a very long time.

EDIT:
Actually, you might have even more durability than that. war travs +30 is a modifier, so it probably gets added AFTER the ethereal takes away from the base 18. If that is the case then you would have 40 durability, making them last 4000 hits.

Yea use them and hope to find a good non-eth while the eth one is slowly on its way to hell

i used eth rare boots for like 1-2 months, only killed 8 dura on them…

To be honest War Travs already have a good amount of durability, and they lose durability pretty slowly, especially if you’re on a character that doesn’t get hit much. They’ll still last a long while. I know it sucks, I’ve had eth arachnid mesh, eth shako, and all sorts of items you wouldn’t want as eth. But that’s just how it goes. Sometimes you’ll get the things you’ll really want as eth, like a Thresher, and then you are thankful.

Problem is, I only play melee (Barb and Pally) and am repairing quite often. Ended up selling this pair for 2 Sol runes. Maybe I’ll craft a good blood ring…

And I pray you’re right about that Thresher!!

Defense bonus? No… Loot god hates you…

They will last quite awhile, trust me, I found a pair way back and used them on my main sorc for quite a duration before I found a replacement set.

ive had eth travs on my java. lvld it 91-97 and didnt break the pair. More defense less requirement, they have their usage. However i dream there would be recipe to make any unique/rare/magic item indestructible with heavy price tag like 2 soj + zod or something. it would make ethereal items best in slot and increase collectivity of these items :star_struck:

Put them on a sorceress, they wont break for a month+

Forgot about those! Very good point.

Eth 50 war trav, you sell it to collectors.

Ethereal uniques are such a slap in the face.
