What are the thoughts on alternatives to Enigma? Maybe a caster vs. melee version?
I would suggest the following change to Enigma and addition of the new “Enigma alternative” runeword Shockwave to supplement both sides of the spectrum for endgame.

Why? Characters that are wearing Enigma don’t need more +skills and the energy is meaningless… is this supposed to be yet another enigma is op/needs balance fix thread? Enigma is fine. There are sooooo many other QoL issues, crappy skills that are skill crappy, FHR/IAS issues, etc that are farrrr more pressing than trying to adjust an end game item the majority who use them really enjoy.
Lol popular again… your idea is lame, Sorcs would constitute 90% of player base, paladins & sorcs will still dominate pub pvp, 4 v 4 gms would probably die or morph into a retarded game of sorcs vs sorcs. You can play classic d2r, you see how popular dueling is over there without enigma & grief.
well that was the nail in the coffin for myself when it came to pvp, when everyone was teleporting around, i just stopped.
i used to play all class in pvp. for different reasons. some builds were better vs others and it was good to have an arsenal to make certain people sit down.
Why? It is an appropriately balanced item for finding 2 high runes. From a SSF player’s perspective they need to be rewarded… sure d2jsp, rmt, etc have made it pretty easy for anyone who really wants it to obtain so in many ways number of people teleporting is a little more inflated than it perhaps should be but again it is still a very proper end game reward. If you like dueling in lod then play LLD or MLD, no enigma and the duels feel pretty much like classic pvp or lod HLD without enimga.
now i’ve just switched to HC and stricly play pvm, the item hunt has been on for a while now. can’t find tyreals might but i’ve sort of given up. with loot drop tables changing in TZs and such. sigh.
and in LoD it was extremely pointless to try and pvp in HC, 90% of the pvp people use hacks and triggs and it wasn’t even fun anymore. they still use them to this day in d2:r and talk smack like they are doing something awesome. it’s so hard to watch.
My idea is to make a second endgame teleport runeword and then make Enigma strictly for casters & Shockwave for melee characters. It’s not about Enigma being OP, it’s about a lack of options, its about the huge gap between melee vs casters. I feel the Shockwave variant would help tighten the gap between the two.

●the + to strength on Enigma makes stat point allocation less meaningful on casters as they don’t need to think about strength requirements
●the increased FCR vs FRW benefits casters and opens up an item slot
No none of these changes. Keep Enigma the way it is. We could possibly work on new content that can get us another way to obtain teleport without Jah or Ber. I was thinking maybe magic and rare circs can spawn +1 Teleport as an oskill but only bases at ilvl 88 or higher. Just to make it super tough to get a gg rare circ with teleport on it.
That would just make Vipermagi and COH as useless as it is. Making Enigma too OP will just cause a chaos to the market and then in the end everybody uses Enigma or only few does because people can’t afford it because of the high demand of Jah and Ber.
No need to make enigma stronger than it already is. And no need to make weaker substitutes with teleport either. Enigma is one of the main reasons the item hunt it fun imo, otherwise it just turns into a stat grind.
sorcs should have the best TP and it shouldn’t be an one point wonder. It should improve with investment. Basically, its cast rate should improve with investment
let the others have TP also, but a somewhat slower one. I am sure that there must be a balance there
it would add a new and better dimension to the game if sorcs had to develop their end game TP and if other chars should consider going for a slower but competitive TP
