I started randomly closing down applications. Turns out the problem was (somehow) coming from Sonic Suite 3 in my case.
Same thing. I click Play, screen goes black, game crashes, unexpected error message.

Tried scanning and repairing. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Updated my drivers.
