I waited until this season to try the warlock and I just now completed normal. I essentially got my act 1 merc, did group trist runs until I leveled into the teens, and I ran solo through act 1-5. I don’t know anything about the warlock, so I looked at the skills and decided I would try ring of fire. Fire sorc is a favorite of mine.
My experience was an extremely easy and boring playthrough. I ended up at level 30 killing baal with tons of unused stats and skill points. I had 20 points into ring of fire, only. I had some stats resulting in a base stat of strength: 40, Vitality 55, most of my stats went unused. I used a leaf staff and a stealth armor. That’s it. I didn’t use a good off hand because I didn’t find one. I would sell items for gold, buy mana pots, and I instacleared entire screens the whole playthrough.
There are some other skills that are really good in a normal playthrough, like holy fire or fireball as examples. This with the warlock was a bit too much tho.
I didn’t need to use my stats, my skills, or 8 of the items slots for my character’s gear. Usually when I play sorc I have to max resists and get some cast rate at the least. It’s a little disappointing because I was expecting the game to force me to explore my characters skills and combo’s in order to succeed. I had a terrible time figuring out how to do an early barb and figuring it out was rewarding.
Warlock SEEMS like it’s modern trash for people that don’t want to play d2, they want to just mindlessly run through a game without trying. I dunno, did I pick the strongest warlock skill to start? I think the character needs some work still.

Yep, absurdly op character
Still laughing about a convo I had wirh a guy that was upset over the “unnecessary” ring of fire nerf
Lmao
First time I cast that spell on rhe shadow drop day I just laughed my butt off
It’s still so absurd
Wait till you run immunes and then come back and see if you feel the same.
Pretry much any fire spec stomps normal and then peters out around act 4 NM.

Yeah modern trash..
considering the act 1, 2 merc with a decent lucky drop can clear whole of normal..
A slotted bow.. (which you get a lot of) with poison runes or gems can easily solo normal..
For me until Hell i use 0 stat or skill points on any toon lmao…
I just use a poison bow..
I dunno what game you have been playing to struggle with normal…
maybe you suck at game? (Sorry don’t know how to day that and be straightforward without sounding offensive)

What a little pathetic wimp you are lol
And a completely nonsensical rant of a response as always lmao
Yeah we all believe you make leveling as ridiculous as using literally no stats and skills just a bow until hell because it’s that easy for you
Just us noobs out here using skills

you are pathetic man, gotta drop a like on that moronic crap

Just run goatmen and apocalypse lol.
i mean, it’s no Mosaic assassin.
maybe warlock should be non ladder only too, then

what you describe as “peters out” is the same challenge that ALL non broken classes have their ENTIRE playthrough. it’s NOT normal to be that strong.
you can do normal naked with like a few points in pretty much any random skill
this is what we used to do before we had respec tokens
its literally the tuturial
you cant really F it up
on any class
you can do NM with easy to get rune words from normal and random filler items you grab of the ground and some random resist charms that you might find along the way.
you might run into issues on hell if your under leveled or have to deal with imunes
this is every character
what exactly is the problem here ?
like usually what we do is lvl up till your at the lvl for ancients on normal and than kill baal right after that, so thats well before lvl 30.
and you’d have unspent skill and stat points usually, at least I always do bc I have my ladder start build, spend the points on the skills you need, save the rest for later when you have to lvl up 2 or 3 or more skills at once every lvl up etc.
And than you usually grind out a few extra lvl’s to make Nm a lil easer.
bc of like how lvl scaling works
but like
Non of this is really important in the grand scheme of things both norm and NM are mainly just there to ease you into the real game which is hell dif where all the monster powers and immunes stuff come into play, they dont really count.
like usually people dont really have issues at all with completing both normal and nm
Its hell where things start to get a bit more serious.
like to put this into perspective
ravens or better yet poisen vine on the druid can carry a 8 man grps through normal

people saying this are delusional. I usually play sorc, and I need resists and cast rate. I have to farm items from countess, andy and meph. I usually have to trade. With warlock I picked one skill, put 20 points in, and was clearing the whole screen. Not only that, the ring of fire stuns and pushes enemies back, so you are never in danger of getting hit by mobs. there is no comparison between Warlock and any other character.
I finished nightmare with the same warlock by putting 20 points into abyss.
In hell, I’ll baal to high level and then respec into one of these insane clear speed warlock builds.
Warlock needs to have similar experiences with strengths and weaknesses as other builds. Like sorceress can use static to kill fast, but often gets killed in the process early game. Sorceress can teleport, but without 105 fcr bp and some hit recovery, she’ll be killed while teleporting here and there. You also have to solve the problem of mana issues with a meditation aura. The warlock class needs more balance.

Thats an absolute bs statement lmao. wouldnt be nearly as fast as warlock does it.
Go put one point in leap ans clear the game with no skills gtfoh
Go put one point in fire bolt and beat normal with no gear. Shut up.
It’s better because all of its skills are viable.
They are both issues, but different ones. Mosaic is the most harmful at endgame, but only exists there. Warlock is harmful all along the way, though it’s only about it being OP, not causing stuttering or crashes.
Lvl 50 runeword not super relevant to a discussion about early game.
Plus, go level 10 assassins ans tell me how often you can make 2 mosaics on day 1
Maybe you get lucky wirh yoir hell forge and trade the rest, it’s certainly not impossible, but the conversation isnt just about power level once geared it’s about the process of going from “I have nothing, no gear no characters” to “i can farm in hell efficiently”.
Nobody is gonna have an easier time with getting to the point that they can efficiently and safely farm hell than warlock.
And thats waaaay more true regarding hardcore by thr wsy
how do you think we get from normal to nm through hell into key farming and already having torches on ladder right now ?
its because we run norm nm hell in like 7 hrs and than go farm
we finish in literal trash gear
and work up from there
why is this so hard for you people ?
I had like - everything in resistances in hell bro

this I think is one of my biggest gripes about the warlock. I made my first one and I couldn’t care less about him or the items I found this season. Nothing seemed exciting. The lack of need for gear takes the joy out of every drop because it feels like… well I don’t really NEED any items right now.
My next task is going to be leveling and seeing what gear I need to do TZ96 player 8 games.
how about 10 points into fire bolt
10 into synergies
and i dont know 1 in teleport
1 in static
1 in warmt
there you go
you can kill baal normal now
It would take warlock a fraction of the time wirh equal points in ring of fire
It’s not about what classes can do with what gear jts about the ease and efficiency, and consistency
Your play group is filling gaps thst your character has that warlocks fill for themselves
Literally everything youre saying here is just pure false equivalency

Also thats nearly all your skill points available at lvl 30 lmao you are so full of it in this thread dude
I can level my warlock as fast as your play group can level with support pally and bo etc.
