Dying twice in a row clarification

I’ve read up on this issue but I’m still not clear on it. Let me detail my situation.

  1. Died when I was overrun by a lot more bad guys than I could handle.
  2. Came back naked. Equipped myself with my backup gear.
  3. Went back to get my body thinking I would not run into the hoard of bad guys as before. I was wrong.
  4. Died again. Came back naked.
  5. Decided to quit game and restart. Had my backup equipment on.

So I ask is there anyway to get my old equipment back? I lost some good stuff.

Nope, never equip yourself with backup gear as you call it. If you do, dont quit the game or you lose your first corpse permanently.

That’s what I thought. I should have known better. The few times I previously died and went back to my corpse there were no bad guys around. This time they were all there in force.

All my work down the drain. My current equipment is not bad but nowhere as good as what I lost.

It sucks to die.

It is an unfortunate lesson people often learn the hard way. D2, being rooted in a time when decent tech was still in its infancy is a very unforgiving game at times. Death can really sting if you aren’t careful. Knowing when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, and when to walk away and exit the game without even attempting to recover the corpse is key to keeping your gear safe in normal mode.

You mean like when WSK is packed w/ gloams, and you’re faced with the prospect of going through lightning filled screens naked?

like rev said, NEVER put on “backup gear”
when you leave a game the game checks to see if you have any dead bodies
if you do, it will save the one with the highest gold value of items.
the game does NOT save multiple bodies, only 1.

if u have 2 bodies with items on them and leave, one of those bodies will be lost forever.
there is no way to get your items back.

the best way to ensure that your main body has the most gold value of all your corpses is to not put any item on before u get ti back, if only 1 corpse has any items that one will always be saved.

also on the topic of multiple corpses.

try not to have more than 10 corpses…
it IS possible for your body to “pop” if u have more than 16 corpses and all your item will fall on the ground.

this is rather difficult to do… but… its is possible still

Actually I was in Hell mode. I was just trying to level up by repeatedly going through the different areas in Act III. The monsters that killed me were the Rhino like animals where only cold can kill them. Most of my gear added + to my skills as a Sorceress. In total they added about +10 to what I already had.

I don’t have a lot of extra gear, but maybe somethings better than your backup. Also, I’m non-ladder. I wish I had the time for ladder, but I just don’t.

This happend to me when i was like 10 years old and a “nice” guy wanted us to spawn dclone by killing me loads of times. Ofcourse i got scammed and it was a valuable lesson for a young boy😂

yeah well fortunately its been 16 for a while, it used to be 1 iirc but that was patched before i started playing. i can’t remember exactly which patch it was, was pretty early on though

If you list out what you lost we might be able to help you replace it.

what is that name even. it’s either air wolf or street hawk. you cant just mix them.
