Fight Duriel and watch him do nothing to the both of you.
For those wondering about thawing potions- the DURATION stacks. So if you drink like, 10 rapidly, you’ll have 10x the duration.
The effect doesn’t stack, it’s the same amount of res the whole time. But you can drink enough to last the entire encounter.
Antidote potions works the same way for poison resist if Andariel ever gives you trouble!

I’m not sure how much the new load screen will affect this strat, but I recently handled Duriel in Hardcore using a Paladin and a Zon who were each limited to a single skill tree, as part of a tournament; it was a simple strategy: get right in his face. This was done single player, on /p3 iirc, but I never really had any issues; also, as someone else said, being level 24 or 25 if you can get there helps a LOT, and most classes get a solid skill at 24 (Decrep for Necros is huge).
To me, getting in there and taking the hits helped keep the merc alive and thus more damage was done. I did use pots liberally, but it is the first time in a long time I can remember not having to TP a few times to rez the merc and do the dance with Le Bug.
Duriel has always been a pain in the @ss, but deal with it. Diablo II is challenging. Just buy thawing potions mate
First time I killed him all I got was a flawed gem. No yellows, no blues. Nothing
The general recipe for Duriel is to run in circles while continuously drinking potions. Repeat for half an hour while slowly, very slowly, wearing down Duriel’s health bar. Twenty years ago, this was the normal and obvious way how to fight boss fights. 
I just solo’d duriel on nightmare as a zealot with holy freeze haha.
I have a rhyme shield so I thought he couldnt freeze me and he did. (basically Im one of the weakest chars vs him since my main dmg skill does nothing and zeal misses a lot and locks you in the animation)
It took forever. Here show I did it. Gather lots of rejuvenation potions and thawing potions. Pull back so you can heal. Youll be frozen most the time so dont try and speed through it. Manage your HP and he’ll go down.
OMG CARBOT is so hilarious. They nail every part of why we come back to this game.
I thought only running nullifies defense, while walking preserve it. D2R also shows defense as “–” when you run.

That sounds correct. I don’t know why I added walking.
Try to be a nice level when you hit Duriel, like around 24 (as a Necro I like to be 24 so I have decrepify for that fight), stack a bunch of thawing pots and be prepared to go in and out of the fight to wear him down. Duriel has always been the gear/level/build check for D2 normal, really.

I agree this game needs a immune to dmg buff for maybe 10-20 sec when you enter a portal/ take a WP.
I’ve died just by porting with my sorc to Frigid Highlands WP before I was loaded as well.
I had a super easy time on my bowazon this run. With stealth, zephyr bow, and gorefoot my walk speed was fast enough to kite durial while I was not hit with cold. When I did get hit with cold I would turn run on.
I just ran around in circles firing an exploding arrow every so often.
