Durial Fight Issues

Hello,

So, long story short, I am unsure what I should do. I have a Level 24 Necromancer, who I did a pure Minion Build.

I have 7 Points in Skeleton Mastery, 7 points in Raise Skeleton, 7 points in Raise Skeleton mage, 3 points in blood golem, 1 point in Iron Golem, 1 point in Clay golem. As for stats, I have 62 in Vitality, 62 in energy, and 34 in Strength.

Durial stomps me. End of Story. The first time I went into combat with him. We got him down to his health being at 2/3s before he ended me. and after that, it was just death. I am now stuck.

I have already used my Stat Reallocation that Akara gives you in Act 1, So I am stuck in a loop. I will Buy a metal Item and summon an Iron Golem, I will revive my Merc, and then I will go back into the fight, pick up my stuff and watch as Durial murders my Golem, Merc and then chase me. I keep summoning Blood golems through the whole fight, but they die in 2 hits. Then I die. I have died 18 times. And even though my Iron Golem has thorns, Durials HP is not moving. It has been at the exact same in Every fight, and even though my Mercs Ice arrows slow him down, and my Iron Golem hits him and Returns Damage with thorns, Durials HP will not move at all. I have sunk over 300,000 gold in items and resurrection of my Merc. And no matter how many times we hit Durial, his HP would not go down beyond 2/3rds.

I dunno if this is just a bug, or if it’s scripted. But Am I just SOL? I mean, It sucks because I had 2 set items, and 1 Unique Item Equipped and the rest of my Items were all Rares. I also dropped over 100,000 Gold, and since once you are in the fight, you can’t leave until one of you is dead, should I just delete my Necro and start all over? I am not able to progress, I am not able to beat Durial, and I am not able to reallocate my skills. So do I just swallow my pride, and eat the Gold Loss and the Item loss and just Throw my Necro off a cliff? or is there any way at all to save this?

are you using decrepify on him?

ditch the a1 merc, get a2 merc. use decrep. win.

If you didn’t invest in the curses at all… just restart i guess lol you are only lvl 24

Sadly no. I went pure Minion, so I allocated ALL skill points to Minion Skills. I have 0 in Curses or Poison/Bone

Even my Items only give me points in Bone Wall and Dim Vision, and 1 point in Golem Mastery

use akara respec if need be

also normal duriel CAN be one of the hardest fights on the game if you aren’t leveled / geared / spec’d right

Are you on bnet?

Ask for help.

This is roughly what you will need to continue doing…but swap the A1 merc for A2 and keep Decrep on him as suggested, and make your IG out of an item “of vileness.” That way if he sends you back to town for a rez at least the damage you did get in should persist instead of being erased by regen.

So I just decided to swallow my pride and restart the game, and My corpse was actually in town, so I didn’t lose my Items. That’s so awesome. I love that Feature. So at least I have all my gear back.

I didn’t know there was another Respec option in Act 2. I’ll def do that. I didn’t see all the changes in the Resurrected version. I’m still stuck on D2 original Logic.

Like others said. Use your respec if you haven’t yet as you will still get 2 more (one from nm and one from hell) and then you can get unlimited with essences.

Or the other option is to just make a public game and call it like Kill Duriel Norm or whatever will fit and people will come. You probably won’t get loot unless you are on a controller and can beat the others but I am sure you just want to move on and you will find better loot shortly anyways.

Yes I am on Bnet, I have never utilized the multiplayer aspect before. So I’ll check into that as well.

while there technically is a respec after akara (token of absolution), i meant use your act 1 akara respec if you haven’t! if you used that one, then yeah you would have had to wait until nightmare or hell, or use a token

If you choose to re-spec you want to drop all your pts into Skelly Mastery until it is maxed. Put 1 pt in Clay golem and get Iron Maiden. Get a Prayer merc from A2. If Duriel rips through your skellies, go get new ones and get back in there. With 20 pts in skellies you can beat him in a few trips to re-summon. This is all doable by lvl 23, follow the build order in my maxroll build.

If you don’t re-spec you can do it with your Iron Golem, make one, Summon up the skellies and get the merc. A few trips and you will beat him. You can even get a bunch of dagger, drop them on the ground as your first round of summons fight Duriel and then make a new IG when he kills yours.

If you can’t keep any of them alive, get 1 more level and get Iron Maiden. If you have IM you can just curse him and constantly cast clay golem till he kills himself. This is the way I usually beat him in normal.

IG’s carry thorns which is like Iron Maiden, they damage Duriel as he kills them. Since Duriel hits very hard, it will do a large chunk of damage to him when he kills your golem, Iron Golem or Clay Golem when Duriel has IM on him.

Summonancer build should focus on maxing out raise skeleton first, then skeleton mastery. Those 2 skills are by far the most powerful thing in your kit short of Revive, and even after getting that the skeletons are still your main summons.

The best golem to use is by a large margin Clay golem. The slow he inflicts should not be ignored as it stacks with decrepify. This makes bosses so slow that they barely do anything at all. Baal with both clay golem slow and decrepify breaks completely. By comparison, blood golem gives you such a small amount of lifeleech per hit that it is barely noticeable. Fire golem has holy fire that ticks for a tiny amount. Iron golem can be powerful if made with certain items, particularly ones with auras or crushing blow but if they die you lose a valuable item.

For normal, Iron maiden is a very powerful tool vs bosses. Use that with your clay golem and you can easily kill any boss on normal even with just 1 point in both. In nightmare and hell because monster health out scales their damage by so much iron maiden is not useful any more, decrepify becomes your go to curse for bosses.

How can you play without investing in amplify damage for your minions.
But do you really think duriel is bugged lol

I appreciate all of the Feed Back. @rondel Thank you for that Build Guide. I have never researched builds but I think that will be helpful. @silamon. This is very useful info. tbh, I was just playing like I used to way back in the day of D2 LOD. And just went with whatever I liked instead of planning. Thank you for that comparison. That does help out a lot and I see what you mean. I have been throwing so many Rares into my IG that I barely have anything left in my stash (I saved my Rares just for IG)

@stig1 Lol. I know I know. I never claimed to be GOOD at building. I was just slapping a bunch of stuff together to see what works. Out of everyone, I never did have any issues with my original builds, but I also never played the game seriously. I was also so young back then that I didn’t understand Builds. All I knew is Get lots of Things. Big numbers. Wow. But now. Since I devoted Years to D3, and learned our to start building, I decided to Revisit D2 and here I am. A newborn baby. lol. In Crowds my build is solid, but in boss encounters, Im terrible.

RufusShinra I hope you know for completing the very first quest of the game, for clearing the Den of Evil, you can go to Akara and respec your stats & spells…no need to restart everything. All power to you if you wanna play single player, it is an extra challenge for sure.

One of your biggest mistakes was putting more than one point into skeletal mage. NEVER. Useless skill unless you have end game gear and you need a mage for the poison effect to stop boss healing. Skele mages are less than 1/3 the damage output of a regular skeleton.

Summon Army
Clay Golem

Cast Amp Damage/Decrepify on him
Spam Clay Golem if the golem dies.

He should die eventually. TP and resummon army if necessary.

this is incorrect. you can town portal back and forth from his chamber.

if you’re using the act 1 merc, you’re using the wrong merc for a necromancer. act 2 mercs give auras, and that makes them even MORE important for a necro with summons than any other class.

i’m workin right now, but if you can’t get past him after a couple more hours, i’ll come kill him for you if nobody else will. duriel is a hard chokepoint for a lot of new players.

OP is playing SP but yes you’re right about TP, he should always keep one up and run back to town when close to death. there are many ways to cheese most monsters and bosses…

Actually you can - use tp scroll once you have only few skellies left go to any WP get more skellies WP to town and get back into TP to fight duriel. if that doesnt help get any wand with + Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden melts Duriel.
As you already used your respec this is your best bet.
Otherwise just like Silamon said max summon skeleton then mastery (ensure to have Decrepify before Diablo).
