Dropping items they just disappear

I have an issue if I drop an item for my husband, it disappears not every time but sometimes. The amount of gems, and armour I have dropped for it to disappear into the ether is crazy.
I have seen reports of this happening in older Diablo games but found nothing in this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a timer for each rarity of item once on the ground.

Never heard of this one. Scary. I’d stick to just trading manually if it’s that dangerous
