I played in 1.11, I had a level 94 zealot, level 92 blizz sorc, level 90 windy druid, level 90 poison Necro, level 90 light sorc, and 10-15 other characters in the high 80’s. This is because you could not respec back then.
I never once had a rune over Gul drop. High runes were a myth.
This time I have gotten a Cham, sur, Lo, ohm, and vex.
They ready buffed those rune drop rates after I quit and that is awesome.

i don’t think they buffed anything, at least from 1.14d to D2R. maybe from 1.11 to 1.14d like you said but i do not know
i found a sur today and jah on sunday, but i think that’s just good rng considering i haven’t dropped a high rune for like 2 weeks before that
HR drops were upped, in 1.13 I believe it was.

They really must have cranked the drop rates up.
Not sure why they were ever as low as they were.
Correct 1.13c increased the drop rate of runes.
Not sure about the actual increase, but I remember reading that the chances of Zod were about 20 times higher.
they buffed it in 1.13
what youre experiencing is normal if youve been playing pre-1.13 before.
Zod for example is roughly 20x more frequent than pre-1.13c.
In an area where all runes can drop, the most common rune drops were shifted from El/Eld to Tal/Ral/Ort.
Pre 1.13c, the highest rune I ever found was a single Vex. And I played a lot back then.

Thanks everyone.
Now I just need to get back to farming. I never got to play with the high runewords in 1.11, since back then I played self found. Finally getting to use the high end runewords makes the game alot more fun.
No one cares about your blog post
Not sure, I’ve been finding nothing.
i found a suprising amount of runes im struggling to empathise with people saying they dont find any and that its broken.
but then again the last time i played d2 rune names were white and my cognitive abilities still limited so im not sure i have any reference for making any claims.
when i was like 12 years old and played this game i maybe found one ist and one vex the entire 5 years i played. i played from the very, very end of 1.08 through to 1.11. the most precious item i EVER found was an ethereal perfect nightwing (back then ethereal items were a weird fashion statement and you just throw a zod in them to show you don’t even need other viable high rune stats).
found one windforce in 1.09.
found a perfect death’s fathom in 1.10
i’ve found more high runes and high items in 2 months than years of the classic diablo game and i MF’d a lot back then. my strategies are certainly different because everyone, back then, were just based on D2JSP pindle/meph bot runes (which turned out to be an completely incorrect philosophy)

Same here. Arach used to cost mal, keyset was ist or lower. Once I’ve exchanged all my items and runes, including griffon eye, to fortitude - that was the highest runeword I ever had in original D2.
And now people say “you need enigma, infinity and grief to play the game”… No, you don’t!
I already traded up to ber+ohm in 2 months after release. Drop is too high.

yeah sounds like we should bring all good times back. but its too late unfortunately.
it shouldnot be rule every casual get to make enigma and grief . if high runes were as valuable as you describe game would be much more better and much harder to play. its sad its already easy mode yet noobs still complaining for increasing drop rates its ridiculous

More propaganda and advertising.
It’s never too late. Unless we die. Well, even then if reincarnation is a real thing, which it probably is since the law of conservation of mass seems to be an agreed theory, then it isn’t too late ever.
Got a Vex rune a week or so after launch and an Ist rune like last week. That’s basically been it for me, after doing like 6-8 hours average play time per day, mostly farming. Even spent a couple days doing a few hundred trav runs. Still waiting for my several high rune drops in a row to normalize my horrible luck.
I feel like players are either super screwed or absolutely showered in rune drops. Makes me wonder what sort of base they use for their pseudo-random algorithm, lol.
Funny enough I actually got a Cham rune from council back in the day before they buffed rune drops. Too bad it was still about as worthless then as it is now!
