I know that there are peoples that already have posted about this topic.
But I want to know if Blizzard will ever decide to increase the drop rate a bit so that players will be able to find what they need a bit easier.
granted that players will need higher MF (Magic Finding) in order to find good gears, items, and so forth. But still, it would be a lot easier for players to find some decent and still work hard to find what they want or for trading to get what they need for their toon.
So again, do you guys ever think blizzard will reconsider and increase the drop rate a bit while working hard and work your butt off to find what you need/want?
Magic find does not increase the number of items that drop. If you’re the only one in the game with 0% or 1000% magic find, the nodrop percentage will be the same. Magic find only plays a role on base items when they do drop. The only thing that affects nodrop percentage is the number of players in the game, and if they’re partied and in the same area.
When you kill a monster or open a chest the game may generate items to reward you. The properties of these items are generated at that moment, even though the item may be unidentified. The game creates dropped items with algorithm of such kind:
At the beginning it finds treasure class (TC), that describes all drops of the monster you killed, a chest you opened, a hidden stash you found, etc. All drop sources have treasure classes.
The game then makes one or several iterations, that are called “Picks”, when it selects one choice from several possibilities.
One of the possibilities is “NoDrop”, which does what it sounds like. Many monsters have multiple “picks,” so even if one of them is NoDrop, the other picks may overrule it. Most normal monsters have only one pick, though.
If nothing is selected from the first TC, the next one down the list will be consulted, then the next, then the next, until an item or NoDrop is selected.
Once an item is selected, the item properties are determined. Since most items have numerous possible types, game’s algorithm of quality determination is highly complicated. Items such as keys, runes, and potions are only found in normal quality, but items like rings, short swords, helms, and bucklers have different qualities like magic or unique. Note that Magic Find is checked during this step.
For every selected item an ilvl is calculated.
If the rarity check hits upon an item of unique or set quality, the game creates the list of all valid item types (determined by their ilvl) and randomly selects one to drop. If there is not a unique of that type, a rare item with triple durability will generate. If there is no set item of the selected type, a magical item with double durability will appear.
After the game selects item type and item quality, it generates item affixes if needed. It also generates all other properties of an item, if there are such properties. Items like Runes, mana potions, and identify scrolls doesn’t have variable properties, but magic rings, rare kite shields, cracked sashes needs property generation.
A simplified example in action: Mephisto is killed! What does the game do to determine your reward?
this is the whole point of playing d2. i know it isn’t to everyone’s taste. just like not every car is for every person, not everyone wants a minivan/truck/sports car, not every video game has to be for every person either…
blizzard has given us 2 great ARPG with different experiences with D2R & D3. don’t want to spend an eternity finding stuff? go play D3. want the hunt to find rare godly items? play D2.
please don’t make D2 easier in any way…that is the path that led to many of the changes that resulted in D3 (for example too many people complained about spell system with d2 led to ALL d3 spells being available for every character)
people also seem to forget, this is in the style of diablo 1. go play diablo 1 if you thought drops in d2 are trash. diablo 1 took that even further…
Go away. My friends and I play casually and we’re decked out. Just working toward end game runewords now like infinity. We already built a enigma, everyone has hoto and cta and this is on hc. Also, we haven’t played the game in 15yrs. I hate saying this but… get gud…
If you can farm Hell, then you don’t need it. The problem with D3 was you couldn’t farm Inferno without the best gear, and could only get the best gear from Inferno. That’s not the case in D2.
Afaik only player count affects NoDrop chance. That said all unique and superunique monsters will always drop the same no matter how many players in party.
I did not know this. We always play in p3 or p5 and I always go farm meph, Andy, pindle bit I should just skip those and focus on cows and chaos? Farm bosses on p1?
Just because you can’t get the best most gg rarest items in the game within 3 weeks of casual play doesn’t mean they should buff drop rates. Gg items should be for no lifers and and lucky bstards. Drops are fine. Grind harder.
Bosses are affected by player numbers, as well as council members for example but the named ones are not.
For example Griswald in trustram will drop the same at player 1 through 8, hence why farming lvl 85 areas is great if you focus only on unique monsters. All white monsters will have reduced chance to drop, that’s also why for farming runes it is better to play on a higher player count game.
please don’t make D2 easier in any way…that is the path that led to many of the changes that resulted in D3 (for example too many people complained about spell system with d2 led to ALL d3 spells being available for every character)
I’m not trying to make the game easier. I am more trying to craft runes (upgrade) and not many gems are being drop. I have seen flawless gems drop, but not chipped or flawed gems drop like it used to be. Farming for gears or decent set is fine for me, I don’t mind that, but trying to craft stuff and looking for parts to do bugs me when hardly any piece would drop after making games after games hoping it would drop.
It’s not the drop rates that need increasing. It’s that there aren’t enough choices for the different item slots due to underpowered uniques that were made obsolete in LOD 1.10. For example for shields its always spirit runeword, for boots its always war travs, for gloves its almost always chance guard, for helm its almost always shako etc. It’s the fact that LOD made so much of the mid tier items and uniques obsolete with respect to 1.10 runewords.
