As we know, there is a cube recipe to upgrade two lower level runes to the next higher level rune.
It would be a nice quality of life change to add cube recipes to downgrade one rune into two of the next lower runes.
It will game more easy, a lot and it would completely destroy economy.
We have no idea what the economy will look like yet, and no matter how the economy turns out, people will point to something as destroying it (jsp, bots, hackers/dupes, blizz trading house?).
Might as well make finding a Zod or a Cham (given how RARE they are) be actually like winning the lotto.
You would find Cham and could make from it:
Enigma (Jah+Ber)
2 Lo
3 Ohm
Vex
4 Ist
Does this seem balanced to you?

I think that would be fine. Creates a downside for each version; use two runes to create one, or use one rune to get one rune of the lower rarity.
Well, it should be, because of its rarity. Or at least worth more than it is now.
But that worth should not come from breaking it down, but from having strong runewords or usecases for it.
For example if you could cube each zod rune as 1 experience point to get from lvl 99 to lvl 100.

But ok, I have played on several private d2 servers and they had downgrade, but you could make Cham from Zod, not two chams, or Ber from Jah. But two runes from higher one?
Thats INSANITY.
Even at a 1:1 downgrade, Zod would still become the most valuable rune in the game, not only because it’s the rarest rune, but also because it can be downgraded to any rune you want.
yeah might be doable without breaking too much, would still cause major economic balance issues though. cham in particular
