I hope the devs will make if we choose expansion we can choose runewords or no runewords I stopped playing the original before this came out I see set gear sucks compared to trash gear that is better. I’m not saying get rid of runewords but let some players that like immortal kings set gear use it and not have to use runewords to make gear. What’s the point of set gear if it sucks compared to enigma or spirit shield and sword.

Point is that those sets will work fine until you can afford the godly end game gear which is primarily a lot of rune words admittedly. If you don’t wanna use them then don’t, just know your toon won’t reach its full potential without the best gear there is too offer.

I disagree cause my buddies always made better gear then set gear even the lowest runewords are better then most set gear whats the point I made better gear then my first complete set gear I found so it’s useless why bother having set gear

There is the option to play classic which is super fun, since ladder resets more frequently it would be fun start fresh on a new economy differently each time
But you can’t play act 5 that’s why I hope they can have classic add the expansion before runewords

I was happy when Barthuc’s Cutthroat dropped for my assassin, then found out that my spirit sword is way better than any claw weapon in the game. Wtf. Also the claw has a higher level requirement than Spirit.
Not saying that runewords equals sets in D3, but they are similiar in that they make the other items into completely uninteresting garbage that clutters the screen.
I see alot of people say this please don’t respond unless it’s d2r. D3 has nothing to do with runewords. Sorry to break it to you runewords make everyone do the same builds enigma pally hammerdin with spirit sword and shield. My damage is crazy whats the point to farm any gear at that point just hope to make a telsadin with dream gear and that needs runewords to make not set gear. So your answer about builds made no sense.
Are you complaining about yourself using runewords? There’s a pretty simple fix to that issue.

All im saying is set gear should out due any runewords. Runewords should be there to help get set gear and farm more efficiently not be overpowering then set gear you want. Don’t understand why no one sees it a problem. I would be ok if you can put runewords in set gear to make it better you can’t even socket set gear.
I agree with the concept of what you’re saying. I also am not convinced it is a problem though. Yeah, some runewords are pretty damn good considering how easy they are to make. Spirit shield/sword, lore helm, etc… But a tals set is still better. Marginally maybe, but better. On top of that, top tier gear is back to runewords that are harder to find than a full set.
And lastly, many of these are supposed to be ladder only. D2R ladders are supposed to be short. Getting these quick runewords will help those players a lot. I know they are available to all right now, and everyone just runs the same stuff because how easy many of them are to make but they haven’t even started ladder yet, so who knows, maybe things will change.
Runewords aren’t changing, they have been this way for many many years now. Is it perfectly balanced? Absolutely not, but it seems to work good enough.
Why should set gear outdo runewords? Some of the runes required in top-tier runewords have lower drop rates than the sets and include multiple runes with super low drop rates. Shouldn’t rarer items be more valuable/useful than the more common ones? I’ve almost found a full IK set and multiples of most of the pieces but only 1 Jah rune, no other high runes. And IK set is very viable for barb through Hell, but runewords with rare runes are better. I think it makes sense.
You ok with trash gear with low runewords on it out classing set gear. All armor and weapons suck now rares and unique items are useless as well I once I made spirit sword and shield and smoke armor my hammerdin is op. I don’t get that joy anymore when a green drops cause it’s useless.
Something has to be BiS, it‘s not just Runewords it also can be a uniq Item. I mean it‘s your own decision what kind of build you do, you can go for meta or do a other build which makes you more fun and you enjoy more.
There are also quite good Sets with good Set Boni, which you can play and have fun with.
I‘d say that People just watching Videos from content creator and copie there „Meta builds“ for the most efficient way to farm and get good drops. Also Watch Video‘s where is the highest Chance to get Runes and they farm those Spots without having fun. It‘s just a Game, enjoy it, do what makes fun and not what has the highest odds to drop this and that. Most of the Time good Stuff drops out of a freaking Chest, not even a Monster or a Boss.

Yes, almost all set items drop far more often than even a Lum (mid level) runes so Smoke should be better than set armor with a couple of exceptions. The rarer item should be more powerful and valuable.
My brother runs full tals he loves it
