…that Blizzard would just get one of their guys to go through the underpowered skills/uniques/runewords and mess with the numbers? I think it would be enough to get a lot of players excited (me included) and I can’t imagine it would take much manpower.
Oh no, but what if it’s not balanced???
The game has been unbalanced for 25 years, and season 13 was the most unbalanced D2R has ever been.
If you’ve seen what they did with Diablo 3 and are doing with Diablo 4, you might think twice about wanting this. The first iteration of the Warlock for D2:R was proof enough they are out of touch with what a balanced character is for Diablo 2. (It makes me question if they even play the game?) Diablo 3 and 4 were/are about raising the bar by giving the players periodic power trip doses… I don’t want that to happen to D2:R. I want a balanced character that is hard to play through with garbage gear, and gets easier through acquiring better gear.
Every skill should be useful in some way, even if it is a niche reason. It doesn’t mean every skill should be META.
We all seem to have different ideas on how they should/shouldn’t do this and seeing what they did with warlock, I’m a bit scared letting them touch other things. However, go to each individual class forum section and you’ll see ideas people have for balancing old classes and skills.
The worry for me is this game is going to experience some serious power creep to cater to the “modern gamer” and could end up killing D2R. The “modern gamer” has a low attention span is going to quit as soon as the next big thing comes out so it’s the wrong crowd for blizzard to listen to.
This doesn’t mean they should throw any semblance of balance out the window.
I am all for revisiting existing skills, uniques, set items and runewords in order to see if they are in need of a buff, but it should be done sparingly in order to avoid another Mosaic-like issue, or simply game-altering power creep like we are having with Warlock.
Also, I’d rather avoid fundamentally changing niche builds, like some are lobbying for with Martial Arts. There can be buffs to martial arts to make them more efficient and reducing some issues the build has (like getting the charge when the charging skill is blocked, for more consistent tempo), but fundamentally changing it just because it’s not to the taste of the majority is a no-go. Not every build has to appeal to everyone, and there is a place for niche builds.
Upgrade recipes for all existing items, that can reroll significantly worse, or significantly better range of stats, + new functional unique stat for each level upgraded ( exceptional / elite)
