Just wondering how many of you play with the updated graphics verses the old-school graphics?
Myself, I find it easier to “feel” what’s going on with the old style and when I enable the new graphics its like my eyes are jumping around to all the details and feel more vulnerable. As if my mind needs to re-compute the changes in the environment instead of going on auto pilot.

If I wanted to play old graphics, i’d fire up the 6 accounts I still have in D2 classic. The only reason I got D2R was for the new updated 3D look. It’s hard to go back after that.

i still use mostly OG but i definitely like how the newer one looks, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. i think they nailed it. resurrected runs a little slower on my computer too and original version just runs better.
I would use the older graphics way more frequently if it was actually done well. But it looks and runs way worse than regular/old D2, idk why or whatever, maybe it has to do with a glide wrapper or DirectX or something, but legacy mode is more of a gimmick in D2R than it is a real feeling of playing regular/old D2.

always new ones. i checked the classic graphics here n there just to compare but its not great.
it looked better back in the days.
they could remove the feature and i wouldnt notice for probably years lol
I really like the new graphics.

really? i mean I was playing OG diablo 2… the one with 24 bank slots that ends after you beat diablo and this actually looks slightly more crisp in OG mode than the original.
I get the same kind of motion blur and stuttery movement as the map segments load, thats what makes it feel the same to me.
the smooth cam with the update is like… woah im playing diablo 3 lol

I know what you mean about adjusting to the new graphics. You have to just stick with them and let your eyes adjust to the change. Eventually, the new graphics become normal looking.
I’m talking about D2 LoD on Bnet for 15+ years, looks far better and runs better than the legacy mode in D2R. Idk why.

it’s most obvious on text for me.
every text is smudged and unclear. wasnt that way back then on my crt
unrelated fun fact: legacy settings → perspective : affects new graphics as well.

beauty, I was thinkin’ that is what folks would do. good to know that this is actually what others are doing. I’m still sittin’ here toggling back and forth convinced the old style actually looks better because of the way it’s highlighted. But it’s clearly because i’m viewing it through nostalgia coated shades.
it’s a shame that some folks will miss what they can’t see like that. Yeah’ know?
I switched a handful of times but realistically they could strip the legacy shell and I would be okay, especially if it improved things.
I dunno eye bleeding looking at old graphics without mod support to smoothing it out.
Not that I would choose legacy even if it did.
If they updated the resolution for the old graphics i’d prolly always play on them. I just like stylized pixel art better than “realism”
But right now they’re burning my eyes out.

I use the new graphics and I love it. The lights/shadows make it look fantastic. The only thing I don’t like is the run and stop animations of the characters that look a bit unnatural. It’s more noticable on some classes but the only one that is downright terrible is the assassin.
IMO D2R was never meant to be played with the old graphics. It’s blindingly obvious that the implementation is “bare bones” and inferior to the 2D graphics of the classic D2. It was added as a cool feature so players can do a quick comparison between the old and new and say “wow”. It’s actually a bigger “wow” if the old graphics is crappier than it actually looked back in the day.
Not adding a better implementation probably isn’t pure laziness. The original pixel graphics supported only 640x480 or 800x600 and trying to scale that to fit the native resolutions of today’s LCD displays can’t be done without compromises. This wasn’t an issue on oldschool CRT monitors. They seem to use a special scaling method to avoid blurring the pixel art but that can be done only by making the graphics look “blocky” in a weird way because the native vertical full screen resolution isn’t a multiple of 480 or 600. I wouldn’t blame them for not investing more resources in something that can’t be implemented well and wasn’t even a goal of the project.

Not only this exactly, but is it me, or…
These replica gfx aren’t actually the same. I mean, its close, but… i just feel something off slightly. I feel almost as if its a shader trick and still running 3d geometry… or. Hmm, i speculate, but do not know really.
I love the updated graphics except for the class character models due to the censorship and also due to tilting them more toward realism vs stylized. (also why the massive change to assassin by making her Asian or Chinese? Why de-bulk the Barb? Baffling)
With that said, i switch to old style as a means of “changing it up” here and there during long gameplay sessions. I actually would enjoy if they made the legacy mode improved in slight areas such as correcting any mismatch to the OG D2.
Moving forward, it would be incredibly awesome to see an all new expansion for D2 Resurrected even if legacy mode would have to be dropped for anything past the Lord of Destruction content.

Do you have this problem in RL, too? Just curious.
still can’t switch to the new graphics. those old graphics are just too good!
Noticed how they’ve rigged the new playermodel’s head to follow nearby targets with the new graphics. nice touch.
Not sure what to do with this prospective button though. I get that it’s toggling orthographic mode but it’s hard to decide what’s better. Anyone see any advantage or disadvantage of the prospective mode option?
Zoom is a neat little addition also. looks real…uh… interesting in legacy mode. Makes it look like the old game is being projected on a flat plane in front of the game camera.
Vicarious Visions knocked it out of the ball park.
Seems they should have out sourced their servers as well.

Their version of the Old Graphics sucks. I would use a Glide Wrapper when I played LOD and it looks a ton better. There’s no way I would play with their OG graphics toggle on.
