Seen a few people on streams and vids who press esc and exit the game immediately when they get into the slightest bit of trouble in with the intent of saving their lives. Are you one of these players, or do you take the death like a true hero?
Seems like it’s more common for new players to play like this.
- Note I’m not referring to how one can save and quit to get your corpse back.
Ever notice any bugs related to this style of play?

I’m using a controller. I don’t touch my keyboard unless theres something extremely specific I need to use it for. As far as fast exiting… I am using a series of skills for survival strategy; Terror, Dim Vision, Decrepify, Summons. If I can’t distract the enemies long enough to exit with a controller I am toast I guess.

Simply put I find this to be a cowards way out HC - was even worse in D2 Classic (I’m guessing D2R will eventually get these) with programs that can recognize you below X life and kill the program.
It is 100% BS

yeah, what’s the point of makin’ a hardcore character if you just do that…

Because I am a hardcore lifer, I only use Esc when the game bugs to something like a character is frozen in place while being pummelled or some weird glitch (e.g., tp weird lag while returning into a packed with monsters room) where the outcome may be death. Other than that, I, too, am an anti-Esc buttonist. The thrill of a character being near to death, possibly dying adds to the fun of this game.

myself, I don’t even have the keyboard in range lol. I’ve got Belt #1 and #4 on mouse button 3&4 and skills on the mouse wheel.
Died a few times because I refused to lean forward haha

I feel like when it comes to HC in ARPGs, the player character should automatically be flagged dead if they exit the program below 50% HP. That way they can still wimp out of a fight they think might kill them, but can’t do so when it’s already too late. Give HC players some accountability. Wouldn’t be a perfect solution, since you could manage to pop an insta heal and then leave, but it would help weed out the people cheating the mode out of its sole purpose.
I actually think D3 has a great solution to it, but it unfortunately relies on the game being always-online. If you dump the program when you’re about to die, the server still tics your character’s presence for a bit, so you’ll log back in to a dead character.
