Do owners of original games get upgrade to remaster for free or not?

I’m just asking since I’m curious about that as I own original game with Lord of Destruction expansion.

I have a same question

You have to pay.

No. It does not seem so. The new version did take a heck of a lot or work to remake the game from 21 years ago.

Having watched the Deep Dive on it. I am good with it. VERY much worth watching if you have not yet. The attention to detail is pretty insane.

Yes. All our purchased old clients will get stolen, the sysreq will be increased to Core i7 and GT3080Ti, but the start screen will lag and freeze anyway… Blizzard will do all it for free. like they did it with WC3.
its about D2. what about playing D2R - you must pay for it separated

If there’s no upgrade for those of us who have the original client and/or the digital clients repurchased, then I’m most likely not going to invest or play the remastered. Really don’t need a second reforged disaster.

Can we at least be able to post on the new forums for the game without having to preorder a game we already own?

I’m willing to pay.

$40 seems like a bit much though. Unless they are planning on doing a D2:R+ with new content added eventually.

You really really don’t own the new version and if you watch the Deep Dive you can learn more about how they were able to take a 21 year old game and remaster it. Lots and lots of work involved. Blizzard forums require a game license or the game + significant leveling in order to post. They always have. Not having that results in pages and pages of bot spam as well as trolls.

The forums for D2 2000 have moved to this forum group and you can post there. That is the forum for the game you already own.

All current Diablo Forums

Diablo 2 2000 (be sure to post on the General Discussion portion of the D2 2000 forums)

Gotcha. Thank you for the reply. So this is the forum to post to, if we want to submit feedback for D2R? I know that I don’t “own” the new version, and I don’t doubt there was/is a lot of work involved, forcing people to “trust” that the game will be good in order to comment on any issues they have is too bad. I fell into that trap with D3 unfortunately.

After D3 and the Warcraft 3 Remaster, I honestly do not trust Blizzard enough to preorder the game. I will wait to order until I feel comfortable doing so (and if that means waiting until after launch, so be it), I am just hoping to be able to participate in discussions about the remaster before it comes out, and hopefully if all goes well, I will purchase it. $40 is a fair (albeit a little high) price for the remastered version “IF” it is as good as the original.

Eh, not exactly but it is the forum you have access to with the original D2 license.

If you want a free place to chat that the CMs monitor you can try reddit. Our CM Lead had a Q&A thread there collecting questions today and I know they read it, along with these forums, comments in streams, etc.

The community on reddit is usually pretty nice and you can discuss all things Diablo there.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/

Perfectly understandable! Doing your research before buying something is extremely smart.

Reddit really might be your best bet unless Blizz lets some of the D2R threads stay in the D2 2000 or D3 forums.

I will try Reddit as well, but would it not be easiest to simply open a new D2R General Discussion Forum under the Original D2 Forums?

I own like 3 or 4 copies of the original game with Lord of Destruction expansion. This is what just over on Ubisoft they did the same thing with the Anno series games. They remaster the 1st 4 games so now you can play them on windows 10 and in HD /4K. We had to pay for them and we all own the games.

What I have seen so far. If it is true and they made the game a lot better. I’ll be buying it and dropping D3. We will be back playing a real RPG. Plus not the contest to be the Leader-board King that we are playing now.

Maybe the could offer a discount for people who had keys tied to their account already, but making it a free upgrade would be dumb as you could get d2+lod for virtually nothing. I have my original keys from release tied to my bent account already.

Imagine if the spyro and crash bandicoot remasters were given for free to people who bought the original trilogies

I feel pretty cheated by this. I have bought this game 6 times! I lost my original keys for D2 & LoD back in the early 2000’s. I then bought new Mac versions with D2 with LoD & again on PC.

The fact that there is no cross over is such a slap in the face to us that have been playing this game for over 15 years. I don’t deny that a lot of work went into making this I played the Beta and enjoyed it but this doesn’t seem fair.

I really wish Blizzard wasn’t charging so high for this.

Why whine about the price? You can play what you already own–just not on BNet2.

If you are smart, you wait for a sale. D2R was US $13.33 + tax from Blizzard (buy online from them), so below US $15 total price. That is what I did, as did others. Wait for the sale, which happens 2-4 times per year. One such sale just ended. So wait for the next one and stop whining about it.

Sale on NOW (end March 2024) thru 08 April 2024. 67% off. Electronic registration so you don’t have to buy it again (it is permanently on Blizzard site, so no disks, etc).
