This was the case or something around them being locked but visible if they weren’t played for a certain amount of time

Allegedly the kill timer is gone
Because these characters are stored on Battle.net 2.0, they do not have an expiration date. That means you don’t have to check back every 90 days just to keep a character and your items alive!

However, your single player character for D2R can be deleted by playing online…so…who knows right now.
ah great ya I was having flashbacks to remembering to do that when i was younger playing D2 and eventually forgetting and rip
That is due to a logic coding bug (or to be more accurate, a lack of logic code when interacting with the specific save directories). Hopefully that got fixed in the patch yesterday.
The why wasn’t the point. The point was the alleged case of ya they don’t delete you anymore.
There is no “alleged”. Characters do not get deleted under normal circumstances, bugs notwithstanding.
