i dont know how to acknowledge whether i already own the expansion or not. my version of the install is 1.5.73090. i play a druid online.
The Lord of Destruction expansion is part of Diablo II: Resurrected. When creating a character, there is a banner with a “][” for “Pre Expansion”, which will turn blue indicating that classic mode is enabled. This option is not available for the Druid or the Assassin, as they are part of the Lord of Destruction expansion.

since i play a druid already, i know i shouldnt have to buy the xpac on the launcher. it does NOT show that i already have it purchased, which is why this question came up in the first place.
i feel the shop is misleading in this way, as they are listing it without this notice.
