Hi, I’m new to D2R, my question is the title, Difference non-expansion and expansion character ? why do people play non-expansion ?
When diablo 2 originally came out back in 2000 it was just the first 4 acts. This is called classic or non expansion. Then in 2001 they came out with diablo 2 lord of destruction expansion pack which added a ton of new items, mechanics, 2 new classes, a 5th act, plus much more. D2r is both of these games obviously but just like in the past you can select non-expansion.
There are many reasons to play. First and foremost the experience is different. It is much more hardcore to progress through the game. The game feels closer to diablo 1. Blues and yellows are pretty much all you can rely on, no OP runewords to fall back on, no charms, your merc sucks balls with no ability to equip anything, etc.
Some other reasons include the chase for the BIS items in classic d2 is very different to expansion. To me that alone can be fun, the items are more akin to expansion LLD or MLD item hunting. Also there is small benefit many people take which is called crushing, it involves someone in non expansion rushing you through all the acts and then you convert to expansion to finish your character out. You skip 2 acts versus rushing on expansion and you can use your character as a bumper for other players trying to get rushed through the game. You may want to google these things if you’re new. Dueling is different than in expansion so some do it for that.
Either way, you’re not going to find many people on public games to play non expansion, if you want to play go join d2jsp or some discord groups.

Almost nobody plays nonexpansion as its missing huge amount of content exoansion can offer.

Zax, please stop posting your opinion about classic like a fact when it’s just your opinion and not even close to a fact.
@OP classic lost most of its playerbase after the 1.10 balance changes. You would have to jump through hoops to find players so I would recommend you to play expansion.

Its not an opinion. It absolutly is a fact. Look at number of games on classic vs expansion. Lod having a lot more content is also fact.
Player base on classic is tiny in comparison to expansion.
Can you show me list of active classic games?
Edit: just asked a friend, there is zero public games made on normal in classis.
It is very much a fact that almost nobody plays classic.
