Am I dreaming or didn’t Blizzard hint at additional content for Diablo 2 almost a year ago and nothing came of it?
They posted a happy birthday to D2.
IMO it was a bit poorly worded because it talked about their first foray into the burning Hells, but that would be D1 not D2, so it didn’t really make sense. Then they said if you think you’ve seen it all, wait for the chaos they’re let to unleash. This made many people assume it meant something new for D2R, however I think it was more Diablo and a “new paragraph/new subject” situation.
Then the next D4 season had something to do with chaos.
So they were most likely teasing/hyping the next D4 season, which they saw as their current Diablo project, and didn’t really mean to hint at D2 content.
However there were those Australia focus groups and also the Chinese release and it seems like we’re getting some changes to the game after a long dry spell - mostly UI tweaks so far, that may or may not lead to meaningful gameplay changes, so who knows?
Either way the strategy of keeping expectations low so you’re not disappointed is a good one for a 4 year old remaster single purchase of a 25 year old game.
