No, they did not change the drop rates. Bow to the RNG gods more, that might help.
They haven’t fixed the bug rate either (Shenk). I managed a tenth crash tonight farming Shenk due to excessive particles. Maybe the drop rate was secretly swapped with the particle rate a couple years back when the bug first appeared?
For reference, the game’s trying to render >200k particles when it has hard limits of half that at best. Wish it’d render 200k runes…
Horrific optimization seems to be a feature of the HD overlay. It’s shocking how poorly optimized the HD graphics are in D2R, too call it amateur or even someone’s pet project would be an understatement.
I’ve heard a lot of reports of crashes from farming Shenk due to the excessive particles. Even in the OG you’d see sprites disappearing due to overloading the frame buffer. I’ve included him and Eldrich in my A1-A5 runs and still to this day haven’t had any issues. Knocks on wood. However I will say that I only hang around just long enough to spot any goodies and quickly teleport out before the fireworks really get intense.
I suppose you could always just skip Shenk… For me he was only really part of the routine to make the farming runs longer playing OG Battle.net. (20 games/hour, 100 games/day limit per CD key set limitation before being temp banned.)

I posted over in the bug report section regarding this (not that it’ll do any good since even that forum is apparently ignored…sigh). The game is pumping out double what the limitations are for particles and thoroughly obliterating the client in the process. This is entirely developer inflicted as they control the particle count. If they would simply reduce the particle count for the abilities we could keep ultra everything and not have to suffer washed out colors due to having to knock down our VFX/Lighting settings to avoid this bruehaha.
