Diablo II Resurrected is a ___ REMASTER ___

Some QoL is definitely something d2 could use.

It baffles me that so many players here think that their personal tastes reing supreme over the entire playerbase of all the Diablo games. Old Diablo 2 players are the worst kind of people in these forums. I am an old D2 player and I’m glad I’ve evolved.

Some QoL is definitely something d2 could use

And it’s getting the ones needed.

  • Improved graphics

  • Shared stash

  • Improved UI

  • Improved Lobby

  • Moved off old Bnet

  • Possibly balance tweaks and changes, but not initially.*

There’s really nothing more needed. It’s okay to have a wish list, but don’t expect this game to change much more than what’s already announced.

What’s needed is subjective, we have different opinions.

There is another forum for D2. I think people here wants to talk about different stuff in D2R(or comparing D2 vs D2R, what shall or shall not be done, etc). If it is purely D2, that forum is maybe better?

For the record, I love D2, it’s my favorite aRPG of all time, as well as favorite aRPG story / lore…

I LOVE D2, I LOVE D1… I think D3 is a pile of donkey feces… HOWEVER…

D3 is a newer game and the quality of life mechanics are superior to D1 and D2’s outdated mechanics.

That being said, the QoL features in D3 are a welcome addition to D2, it’ll only make the game that much more enjoyable… because let’s face it, there were frustrating / annoying aspects of Diablo 2 but no one saw them at the time because at the time, that was as good as it got and it was a huge improvement over D1… just having stash space alone was a major improvement… should they have taken it further? yes… but they didn’t…oh well.

So now flash forward 20 years… Diablo II is generally dead for the most part, I stopped playing it back in 2004. I would have continued to play it but the QoL stopped me from doing so… meaning, characters getting wiped for an mild time of inactivity, not having anyone to help me transfer items safely…etc.

So now people want the QoL that Diablo 3 had, in their Diablo 2 game… what’s the big deal? You have the original jank Diablo II still… this isn’t WC3R… the games aren’t merged… so let us normal people enjoy the thing we used to love with added convenience… elitists can still play their archaic rusty version if they want to… no one is stopping them.

What’s annoying me is that purists / elitists are going to turn this remaster in to a 60 dollar graphical facelift, and that’s not what I want to pay for… I want QoL, I want rebalances and I want improvements over the original… nothing too crazy to compromise the integrity of the game but enough to sit back and not have to stress out over dumb things while I try to enjoy playing the game.

Things I’m cool with:

  • Shared Stash (The more the better)… 3 tabs? Fine… 1 tab? not so much… give us as many as possible… I don’t want to have to start throwing out Godly gear because I’m out of space.
  • Auto-Gold pick up… sure why not, super helpful, doesn’t hurt anything, saves my wrist.
  • Rebalance of skills, yes… please, because I’m sick of Hammerdins, Zealots, Fishymancers, Javazons and Blizzard Sorcs ruling the game… we need more diverse options and setups circa patch v1.10+ which basically ruined the entire game for solo players on Hell mode. I remember having a WW Barb and a Werewolf Druid that could solo Hell… and that was fun.
  • Instanced loot, I don’t see an issue with this, the more odds of getting higher runes the better.
  • Removal of stamina bar (not going to happen because items are hard coded) but I wouldn’t be against removing it.
  • Transmogs, sure why not? It doesn’t hurt anyone to put on a fashion show.
  • Increased loot drops or a change to loot tables so that impossible to find uniques / runes are a little more possible… I’m not saying having stuff rain from the sky like in D3 but it would be nice to have a 1% chance to get a Zod to drop instead of like 0.000063% Look I’m old and work a full time job, I don’t have time for this kind of crap… If the situation becomes too dire, people are just going to buy the items on 3rd party websites… we need to stop giving item farmers our money… seriously… it’s ridiculous.
  • Abolishing botters / dupers.
  • Extend the map reveal to double the radius or even reveal the entire map at all times because you know people are going to use undetectable map hacks any way… they still exist in D3 to this day and people use them without consequence. This will save some heartache of Blizzard having to ban players from using them.
  • Stacking of runes / gems (not potions) … I don’t agree with potions because they’re a survival mechanic and can be spammed infinitely but we should be able to stack items that lay around like Runes and Gems.
  • Ability to kill the Cow King and still open the Cow portal… same with the Nilathak quest.
  • Another means of spawning Uber Diablo without having to sell “duped” SOJ’s…

I think I covered most bases for most of the changes people want… I don’t care much about PvP so I have no insight / thoughts about it… everything else seems fine though.

I have picked up D2 quite many times over those two decades, and every time what killed my mood was:

  1. The lack of genuine players Vs bots. Very small community to play with, and they all just rush with their own stuff.
  2. The number of bots, dupes, item sellers. The amount of infestation is just ridiculous in D2. These things ruin the economy which is already crap.
  3. Old unreliable blizzard servers, totally unmanaged and left for dead, zero antihack/bot measures, zero maintenance, intermittent ping issues (annoying for item pickups).

Most of what you described I would be fine. Do not adjust drop rates though, especially if they add instanced loot. Stacking, eh. Fine the way it is with increased stashes. Transmogs no. I’d rather see effort placed into actual content than that. No map hack or similar features.

I wonder when the Alpha will launch. Cant wait to win the lottery to get an idea of how crisp the responsiveness of D2R is with the 3D Overlay and/or if it feels right with the increased framerate, 3D-Overlay. I wonder how much “Input lag” and/or latency is introduced by this 3D Overlay.

It would suck if we are forced to play non-3D D2R if we want the best latency-performance and crispness of controls and skills like teleport. D2, on current servers has rubberbanding issues with teleport and many other skills. Sometimes Legacy Bnet “Spazms out” and you teleport two positions forward and then one teleport you just teleport in place instead of continuing to go forward. I really hope this is a Legacy Bnet Issue.

I think (or hope) that Bnet 2.0 servers will turn out to be much more crisp and responsive with D2R than D2 currently is on legacy Battle.Net.

You forgot to add:

The people that have been playing D2 for the last 20 years;

Smugly spamming posts and replies to everybody about the good old days, condescending and referencing how easy every other Arpg is compared to D2.

There is a huge difference between posting a topic for discussion or posting a topic where you self congratulate yourself for being a die hard, never wavering fan and whilst fan boys from D3 and other Arpg’s that have grown up playing spoon-fed games can be irksome - nothing is quite as irritating as the ‘old school fanboys’ who need to let everyone know they have been around since day 1.

I genuinely hope they make an achievement badge for you guys so you can lord it over the gamers who weren’t born or who didn’t buy it back then.
Not everyone is as old as us and some had no idea what Diablo was back then as there was no internet.
Let it go. Welcome the new ideas without criticising and hopefully the game will evolve and be better.

The developers already made their own changes with shared stash, and auto-pickup for gold.

They also said they’ll be checking in with the community for any further development decisions.

So, this thread is pointless. And to call people trolls for offering suggestions is borderline toxic.

My hopes:

No inventory size changes
No charm inventory
No new acts
No personal loot
No unlimited skill tree reset
No stacking

Logging out in __ minutes of inactivity
Blood switch on/off

Why even change things inside a perfect game that made the game a masterpiece the first place?

We Just want improved graphics, not an entire New game.

It’s just too silly to ruin such a game with silly ideas when the game has always been good.

Meaning behind resurrected is that it coming back to life after 21 years with improved graphics. A game that fans loved and still do today. This is why the old school fans don’t want to change anything else than improved graphics, because It’s our childhood game.

Did you like if it was your childhood game that you loved to play as a child? Your beautiful childhood game is now going to change things in your game that makes it unrecognizable, so I strongly doubt you would have liked it.

Hopefully, they will incorporate either additions or modifications upon feedback.

Honestly, there are more things than just the graphics that need to be updated in D2. Did you like muling? The shared stash is great. Did you like clicking on gold? etc…

I loved D2 at the time. It was my favorite game at that time. However, 20 years later I can see the problems in my favorite childhood game because I have matured and seen the game’s flaws.

Funny because I disagree with everything you say, bought d2 the day it came out and played it on and off to this day, hated d3, and think you are making up a bunch of false premises to attack people who just genuinely want certain things to be better. Your false dichotomy of 1:1 remaster or “turning the game into d3” is not a genuine position whatsoever.

Well Blizzard haven’t exactly done much to garner a lot of good will recently. Some may be quick to forget…

But there was that whole Blitzchung thing where Blizzard banned a player for daring to say “Free Hong Kong”. Blizzard said it’s games weren’t a platform for politics. Yet ActiBlizz then turns around and voices it’s support for BLM.

On top of that? They released Warcraft 3 Reforged which not only was plagued with it’s own issues, but they screwed up the original game people had been playing for 17 years.

I want D2 Resurrected to be good. Blizzard can’t afford a repeat of Reforged. There are many things to love about D2. In particular I liked the talent trees. It’s one of the things I constantly point to as an example when it comes to other games. D3 and World of Warcraft both saw talents pruned and significantly streamlined. I would like to see DIV pull back some of the talents we had in D2 rather than continue with the streamlined stuff we had in D3.

I am someone that has played them all. D2 and D3. I feel each does certain things better than the other. D3’s transmog and dye system for example I feel is a change for the better. However D2’s talents I feel are miles better than what we have in D3 which is too streamlined.

D3’s rifts and adventure mode are also changes I liked. I still had hoped D3 would get another expansion that brought back my beloved Werebear Druid. But alas. Fortunately DIV will have it again.

im agree with most of what your saying but for patch 1.09 because this is the vanilla patch of the game , patch 1.14 is already a patch with a lot of change, is a 2016 patch mean is got a big 0 legacy with that patch and no memories, im a nochange player but how you can ask nochange on a patch make 5 year ago ? make me smile a little bit , i will never call a 2016 patch vanila or legacy vs1,09 is 20 year old and the prime of this game

I do too. Which is why there should be no drastic changes, the game needs to be the same in every aspect except for graphics and small QoL such as autogold, shared stash.

I would love that too, but they won’t do it. Diablo 4 is looking to be a dark Diablo 3 so far from what i’ve seen.

I would like to see a transmog system in D2, personally. I’m normally against anything to be changed and added, but a transmog system I would enjoy. It would change the price of some items such as White coloured rare pelts for druids, but I would still support it.

Rifts are more boring than Baal runs, in my opinion. Mostly because I know the boss at the end is going to poop out 20 legendaries/sets. Where as for Baal, he can drop all sorts of stuff, and the items actually have weight on them for trading.

No, there isn’t. It’s a game for a different audience, and you need to accept that.

Honestly? No. But it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. This is because I don’t hoard garbage. I know which items I should be picking up. Also, the shared stash will not get rid of muling. It will just make it a lot easier to xfer items, which was the most annoying part about muling.

Unless you’re a goldfind barb running Travincal over and over, or trolling someone in bm duels; people stop picking up gold after the first two quests in Act 1 normal. It’s more efficient to just run through fast and only pick up rings/amulets/charms/staves/wands/scepters for gold. Once you’re in a certain point in Nightmare, you pick up armors that will sell for 35k to vendors.

I was expecting someone to bring the transmog subject to Diablo 2 and I have to say I have never seen such a non-RP mechanic in RPG games. When I heard Diablo IV was going to have it, I immediatly gave up ever purchasing that game. Keep that thing the farthest possible of Diablo 2.
