Diablo 2 real difficulty level

I realized that the actual difficulty progression seems weird in a way for a sorc char who starts out from 0. In normal difficulty, I spec my sorc as a nova sorc during low level and every 3-4 casts I need to drink 1 pot which made it such a hassle that I have to keep returning to town to repot. Once you get passed normal baal, you start to get into the level 30-40s with crystal sword spirit and other basic gears, nightmare is actually easier than normal LOL. At the same time, obviously I also respec into pure blizzard sorc mainly becuz it’s the most sought after build for mfing. Once you get into hell, the difficulty spikes again becuz of elemental immunities and the dmg they deal is also much higher. Just saying that the anya quest took me almost an hour just to clear becuz I had to rely on my merc to kill all the cold immune 1 by 1. So, in a nutshell, the difficulty level is somewhat hell>normal>nightmare with nightmare mode being the easiest out of the three for someone who starts off with 0 gears.

Gear has a lot to do with it, and so does your build.

For example, I leveled a fire druid by spamming nothing but Fire Storm, and had very little mana woes, all the way up and into level 40. I didn’t have fantastic gear either, mostly some FCR, two triumphant rings (2 mana a kill), and the leaf staff. Everything else was whatever I managed to find.

When at low levels, I always found mana per kill much better than mana regen rate. The only time I got stuck having to drink tons of mana potions were on bosses, but even then it was only 2-3 per boss typically.

So it might help to plan a “leveling build” and then a “higher level” build once you can start to get your synergies rolling.

if you’re building your sorc from nothing you need to invest in 2 trees. either Blizzard + fireball, or meteor and frozen orb. If you’re trying to solo the game you need to have 2 elements. Blizz Fireball is strong.

apparently yes, but somehow, I managed to scrap through hell solo with pure blizz. It was tough but definitely doable with quite a significant number of deaths especially for anya quest. I did lots of mf in nightmare before going to hell too, got occy, vipermagi, waterwalks and other stuffs.

I almost had to respec into a second tree but instead I just got into some decent hell games and got carried through and got all the WPs I needed
