Why not have a seperate PvP mode where items are readily available but make it like hardcore. Guild Wars 2 has Player vs Environment (PvE), and Player vs Player game modes. Both are great and both full fill different game play styles.
I would assume by hardcore you mean a seperate mode, and not than when you die once you have to recreate a new character. People in pvp used to play private realm like that in d2lod and it was fairly popular for people who already knew pvp. You also had directly access to lvl 99 char.
Some people wouldnt like it because they want to hardtrade and min max their char as much as possible, which isnt rly a thing in an environnement when you can have everything by just talking to vendor, but most would probably like it. The problem private realms had is, their werent really welknown for new players so they were gating the pvp community. It wouldnt be the same if it was a blizzard creation. I really doubt they would do that tho…
guild wars 2 pvp is garbage.
also, having seperate pvp items would defeat the whole point of mf and item hunting to build the most efficient killing machine.
the way it is now is great, this seperates the dedicated pvp’ers from the casual pvp’ers. dont walk into pvp with stuff you got from charsi or a free game. you’ll be trading and hunting for a good while before you get the holy grail of item combination for your pvp’er.
something folks seem to ignore, is the true value of rare jewels.
Not really, you would only have access to basic gear and would need to do something like stash your PvM found gear and transfer it to your PvP character. D2R is a good game but it has very outdated mechanics and some players only like to PvP. With that said, the majority D2R PvP player is cheating in some way whether it be JSP, botting, or hacking dupes etc. Just pointing out that Guild Wars 2 did a great job supporting both their PvM, and PvP communities. You have to break the rules to compete with PvP in current D2R.
No one has 20 hours a day to dedicate to such low drop rates.
PvP originally was a place to duke it out with other players using gear you found, and perfect gear was much less common and much more respected.
JSP obliterated those days in only a few months, then botters sealed the deal.
I miss those days when duels werent just a bunch of rich kids showing off their money, and it’s also part of why I went full pvm.
I just cant ever agree with free pvp gear though, because that’s the whole problem that made duels boring for me…people could just access the best gear available with enough cash. This would make it free, and so pvp would lose a lot of it’s flare and probably just die finally.
I think the best direction to go in, is change the rules. Then after the change, ANYONE who aquires items through 3rd party purchases will have their account whiped(all items gone, and all chars deleted). jsp would have to be given a cease and desist notice, and rwt sites given the same treatment.
To fund this, they could start their own rwt with QoL things or cosmetics. stuff that doesnt give anyone an edge over everyone else. QoL things can be in the same spirit as say the copper eating salvage’o’matic in gw2, where you still have to pay for the salvage but now you dont have to run all the way to a trader for it. so for example, and ID scroll book or TP scroll book, and it can hold as many as 100 scrolls instead of just 20.
I dont see any value in replacing pay to win with free to win. I know how to build a 6k HP smiter, thats not hard to do if the gear is readily available lol…
5k hp is difficult 6k probably a stretch
you can hit over 5k with the low grade right gear. 6k+ with the perfect right gear. remember that in pvp, palys and barbs put ALL stats into vit. the only build that doesnt do this is max block who is meant for melee(but not smite) and range. since in general pvp you have variety and more vit is best anyway with holy shield giving you block, folks almost always went full vit. you cant block smite, or elemental attacks, or even charged strike
EDIT: forgot about es sorc…who pumps points into energy. but es sorc is kind of like kicking under the belt. many folks would catch them using mana pots or even full rejuvs. so it became a bit of a taboo thing to use it against anyone who wasnt bm’ing already.
Never seen a 6k life smiter. It would be handicapped by block rate in this case.
yeah thats the thing, you chose life over max block because most of the opposition either didnt depend on blockable attacks. however, there were still a few max block palys who had around 4k health. bvc’s had insanely high health at 11k and rarely even higher than that lol…pvp builds were serious business
8k bvc was about as much as you can get unless you use wisp. Realisticaly a 4k to 4.8k life smiter with block is better overall.
smiter with mega high life are smiter with a lot of scs, but normaly its better to have 9 sk. A PvP paly will have around 4.5 k with very good gear (and maxblock ofc). Then you can throw around life number with oak if you want, sure…
8k is actually low for a bvc, with low grade versions of all the right gear I was hitting 9.5k while optimal bvc’s hit 10-11k health.
all barb and paly pvp builds used variations of 20life sc’s and looking back knowing what gear to use was actually part of what made the difference in pvp. for example, in smite vs smite if you try to use exile against an upped hoz you will die so fast its hillariously sad that you tried to bm at all. the weapons for bvc were pretty common knowledge, beastz and greifz. anything else was a waste of runes or time.
