Unpopular opinion I don’t want to go sorc just because tele or sin just because mosaic.
I thought foher or singer for support. Possibly even thought of javzon for fun/cows.
Thoughts? What char are you starting with? 
I’m in the same boat, I’ve been playing nearly every ladder since LOD and I’m tired of sorcs, I’m thinking of FOH myself or perhaps poison necro, lower res/conviction will get a spot in many runs. On the bright side for Necro their gear tends to be the cheapest early ladder
Thinking of Toxic Fairy (e.g. Plague Java + LF + CS for bosses) Amazon as I mostly ladder alone, the skill doesn’t do a lot in large multiplayer sessions but that’s OK by me.
Combine with A2 NM merc with HF, 20-point Valkyrie and Decoy and it’s a reasonably safe build. You have a shield for resistances. Only real limitation is low hit points.

I haven’t made a sorc since the 3rd season of d2r though I think the streak may end to build a melee sorc…
Builds I’ve had fun with in d2r tesladin, strafezon, rabies, pnova/pdag trang nec, wolfbarb, bladefury sin and frenzy/double throw barb
GO with Tely Blizz for MF then respec to Mosaik or HDin for TZs and Ubers 
biggest tip i can give you is play whatever u have fun with.

and i’ll probably go throw barb later in the season as well
(as its significantly more expensive)

im genuinely curious, i can help!
there is VERY few skills that u you simply cant make a build around… that cant at least clear hell in p1.
and ive tested most of them
the biggest failure i has was… “conversion” else can work,
it certainly wont be efficient… but almosty any build in certainly doable… that’s what makes d2 so good.
with the right items you can make any skill work… it truely is “play your way”

When I used to play online, I was always pulled toward starting Ladders with an Enchant Bow Sorc. I know it’s not super original, but it’s good, basic, and cheap, and works well even with white junk gear. Pick up literally ANY Bow/Xbow with Exploding Arrows/Bolts and it gets great, and a Demon Machine/Fire Sunder turns it into a destroyer of worlds. On top of all that it is an AMAZING party supporter.
Just add FOrb/CM sometime before A4 NM, and it’s golden.
