Developers are asking the wrong crowd

I read the new surveys online. And I have a feeling you will release the update in Sept or late December.

Look, you cant try to make d2 into d4 like game and make the transition easier to d4 or something. Stop that.

It’s great that you are making changes to the game but some changes are just soooo sooo bad; it threatens existing communities.

D2R PVM crowd in general ARE NOT HARDCORE FANS!!!

The ones that spend thousands of hours and thousands of dollars in this game are GM MELEE players. They are the ones that kept this game alive for YEARS!!! These guys are your niche otaku player base.

So here is what I think.

//good changes//

new act 6
addition to act 4
socketing repeatable
new monsters
new safer ingame trading
cross platform play
new class
new mercenary

//questionable changes//

charm bags
cursed items (if you do certain quest, it gets stronger)

//bad changes//

new talent tree system
→ augmenting gear by ADDING AFFIX
→ reduced disparity between casters and MELEE!!!
reroll staff mods

I dislike this idea a lot.

I really, really dislike these ideas, more than the previous ones. I play this game because it is better than PoE, this would be bringing it more in line with PoE, no thanks.

We could probably compromise and make imbuing repeatable, and I’d be fine with that, but I don’t like the idea of directly rerolling staffmods, because I love the imbue system as is, and that is the best way to force staffmods.

I am either indifferent or like most of these ideas, thanks.

this is exactly how you convert d2 to d4

PVP guys dont know much about the game outside of PVP in my opinion so it would not be good also. PVP is tiny portion of game.

If blizzard should listen to everyone, they should listen to people who play game the most and longest. PvM style, various characters, MF maniacs as these people have most knowledge and understand balance.

listening to the mob is never the way to go because it never produces the best possible opinion… this is well known and established… and it is the sole reason why direct democracy doesn’t work at all… for instance, we could have petitions for any issue, economy, wars. etc but social science, political science, history and basic knowledge all agree that this would only cause chaos and destruction… even if some of this community seems to forget, this is known since the ancient times…

so what must the “Blizz devs” do ?
what they must do is listen to the experts
not the experts who create d3/d4 ofc
there is no way around it

Why is it a bad thing if its done right? I do think there’s a wrong way to go about, example splash damage as a weapon affix like PD2 did. Build should be specialized, Fury Druid, Frenzy/Berserk Barb and to a lesser extent Zealer are all examples of functional melee builds within their niche which is very high sustained single target dps. These shouldn’t get touched/buffed/have access to splash damage.

On the other hand this is also essentially the only melee abilities that do work. Melee builds are littered with completely non-functional abilities either due to bugs or poor tuning. And most of them happen to be aoe abilities. Whirlwind is bugged to hell, rabies is unuseable tuning wise, even moreso in TZs, fireclaw is a meme that requires 20 HR’s worth of gear to function, maul is a meme, shockwave is useless, conversion is a gimick, charge is a gimick, leap is a gimick, the elemental damage pally ability i forgot the name of is a meme etc (i prolly forget a bunch just going on top of my head). And thats not accounting Assassin that i dont know much about (heard Mosaic fixes it but never played it or seen it so no clue) or Spearzon (who’s admitedly probably never to be meta due to how absurd Javazon is).

If feel there’s plenty of room to give melee some aoe clearing potential by just… fixing/reworking any of these without powercreeping the rare melee skills that do work.

Edit : oh and did you know the Druid has a skill called Hunger? i bet most people don’t lmfao.

you do realize that its the GM Melee PvP crowd that endured after all these years right? PVM games die very quickly. You collect items and once you grind long enough, the game is dead. The only reason d2/d2r lasted thing long is because they made it extremely hard to obtain GGs. Some GG items would literally take more than one’s lifetime to farm.

I think its is very important

  1. to not upset the GM melee community by introducing radical changes

  2. cater to their needs (ex. GM melee arena, perhaps a global ladder)

Btw, most people in GM Melee spent thousands on gear and they have all played pvm through and through so its not like their are mutually exclusive. GM Melee crowd understands gear optimization very very well because we deal with HEAVY HEAVY numbers and pretty much played with almost ALL the GG items. Also unlike regular GM pvp, GM melee is not like regular pvp where hand eye coordination is required. Gm melee is seriously playing with numbers.

So the point is, while everyone welcomes good changes, please do not change d2 to into d4. This is how you lose your fans. NO POWER CREEPS!

If there is something we know about this dev team is exactly the opposite of the above

  1. Every single update the 10 pvp active players came here to complain how they are destroying the pvp scenario
  2. They did absolutely nothing to cater to the pvp community despite the various opportunities to do so

I would argue thats a reason to NOT listen to someone in regards the game as their mind is simply poisoned by rmt

well its RMT that kept the game alive this long to be fair. If it werent for the bots, d2r would have been LOOOONNNG dead. Thats a fact.

if a developer has to ask the community for ideas, the game is doomed. idk if i’m the only one, but this is a huge warning sign to me.
we just seen what happens when influencer like llama get pulled by blizzard to change the game. i couldn’t believe that llama was involved after seeing these changes and choices.

what they do is just asking for how they could make more money by satisfying the people who mainly complain about this game.

It’s not even that they are asking rhe wrong crowd necessarily (any owner of d2r should have received a survey though) it’s that they are asking the wrong QUESTIONS.

Asking your audience “do you want this feature” is moronic.

Questions should be :

is the gsme difficult enough/challenging

Does the challenge scale well

What motivates you to play

Much more abstract questions than simply “do you want xyz change?”

Like this is literally part of software development you dont ask your users what features they want. You find out what they like and don’t like about their system and YOU design the solution because that’s what you do!! Youre the expert lol

I wonder what target group was for this survey. Why don’t they just send it to everyone to have fair opinions? Those who don’t care won’t waste time filling it anyway.

Have to agree. You don’t see fromsoft reaching out saying “should we bring back power stancing? Should we remove forced PvP?”

They are the ones who know what it will do to their gameplay tk make such a change.

This is exactly what blizzard cant do welll anymore is anticipate how player behavior and expriecen are going to change

that too. they picking a handfull of people and in the end you run into those who complain whatever you give em.

this survey’s “ideas” feels like some trolls of this forum been involved.

spend thousands of dollars on what exactly? Does blizzard see any of that money? no? Well that makes you irrelevant in the discussion right

Blizz knows, or they should know: (offline has to phone home every so often so that is when any metrics would xfer in my opinion)

  • How many players play offline vs online
  • How many players are pvp vs pvm
  • How many players play online p1 games
  • How many players play offline p1 games
  • Amount of time spent per player on avg
  • If offline /players x or online multiplayer what is the average time spent
  • If offline /players x or online multiplayer what is the average players fake or real in game

With all the above hopefully they are listening to the largest portion of the player base whether it is pvm, pvp, or gasp the streamers. The largest group pays the bills so they should be the group contacted and asked about what they want. Anything but listening to the largest group would be a horrible idea

I’m going to sound like a dick but i genuinely don’t think PvP should be a concern. I mean heck i highly doubt it was when they release 1.10 lol.

D2 PvP was cool when your options were that, DoTA (the WC3 mod), UT or CoD1/2 for PvP games. Nowadays i’d much rather play League, Valorant or 2XKO (yes i like Riot) than any half botched attempt at PvP balance in a game not made for it.

Edit : not saying remove PvP from D2 either it can exist as a way to goof around but any concerns about “balance” or “competition” are at best misguided.

They should only add minor quality improvements to the game, by messing around too much will make it in to a completely different game. Heralds as an example was a god awful addition to the game, it is basically lottery to get a chance to play another game of lottery, to farm elites and rares would have been enough. Warlock was also a pretty bad addition the way they added him as his power-level basically makes him in to a nephalem, the class itself is fine but his damage is overtuned and his minion is somehow superior over Necromancers golems.

Honestly there’s no harm in fixing a few stuff for pvp tho… the lack of care only show up how incompetent they are.
Before the expansion the botters were the biggest money revenue and now they kinda still are with a side of casuals, neither group is good for the future of the game.

I’m sorry but I can’t imagine this is true. In order to compete in PvP you have to have a near perfect character, and to do that you have to play the game a lot!

I also disagree with the sentiment, “PvP is a small group of players, and we’re just focusing on the bigger picture and incoming crowd at this point.”

I’m not into PvP, but it’s important to respect a core element of the game has been played for decades than catering to an incoming crowd that knows nothing about the game.

Back to the main topic: What does OP mean with “repeatable sockets”? Don’t we already have a cube recipe for that?
