Hey, shoutout to the d2r team and mrllamasc. Really enjoyed the conversation and transparency today regarding the future direction for d2r.
I’m a long-time fan of the franchise, started with D1 as a kid and have revisited diablo 2 many times over the years. A couple improvements/features I’d like to see implemented are as follows.
Improved official support for trading. Whether an expansion of the trading forums to include subcategories/filters (Armor/gloves/1-H Axes/Etc.) or better yet, a trade platform integrated into the game. I can think of many ways you could integrate it into/with a loot filter system, group finder system, clan/guild support, etc. Either way, please include a hardcore only section for trading on the forum or with in-game implementation. Perfect Segway…
More emphasis/reward for hardcore players. This could come in the form of hardcore only runewords/unique/set or like lobby badges for every 1000 monster kills you get a new rank/icon or something along those lines. People love that stuff.
Not sure if it’s realistic to expect any of these things, but as a long time player of this and other arpgs/mmos, I’d like to see more of this type of thing. Anyway, I like what you’re doing with the measured approach to tampering with the greatest game of all time, keep up the good work.
I feel like this is one of those things they could invest a ton of time and effort into, and it still wouldn’t really displace all the other venues people use to trade, whether it’s D2JSP or various Discords and other websites or whatever. It would just add another to the pile. So seems tough. I sympathize though.
As an OG player who only recently started their first ever HC character, this would be fun. I think one reason I never played HC is knowing that it’s exactly the same as SC except for permadeath. So it always seemed a little underwhelming. And like, I know that’s the deal going in, so I’m not really complaining. But in the same way they add incentive for people to play ladder, it would be fun to add incentive for people to try HC too with exclusive items or whatever like you said.
Yes, this would be nice, but I’d settle for them just fixing the game lobby and adding a search function and killing auto refresh.
This would make me want to play HC. I did HC in PoE for a bit and it was great because the economy doesn’t stagnate with time like SC, stuff holds value because eventually folks die and items are removed from the economy. Only issue I see with it is, “Oh, hey, super awesome runeword in HC that I want in SC, I’ll just go pay D2JSP cash for it and die.”
Yeah I think most of us expect to just settle for whatever we can get. In the off chance we do get more, this is the type of stuff I would like to see added in the future as opposed to any sort of dramatic gameplay changes.
A few balance tweaks here and there are fine, like what they’re doing, but I’d like to see these support/novelty features implemented to really move the game forward without changing the core gameplay too dramatically.
HC is already pretty dramatically different from softcore, it’s just not really acknowledged. The player is forced to play in different ways in HC or die. I’d just like to see more official acknowledgment of that fact in any way they’d care to implement it. It would just makes things more interesting.
He said that some changes are not off the table, but they don’t want to ruin D2 in a big bang.
They want to slowly adjust the game and look for feedback on the direction.
So more patches with smaller/fewer changes instead of less patches with lots of changes.
