Hey, i recently made few topics about changes to skills(more will follow for every class but i also look for ideas how to change or add uniques and sets.
This topic is very close to my heart as years ago i made d2 mod where i designed over 500 unique items. I can for sure use many of them for my work on improved D2R but i mainly look for new fresh ideas.
So what do i look for?
Suggestions how to change current unique or set items as there is many of them which could be improved or changed to be viable or their power level doesnt match their rarity. Also there is many items not having unique version at all. Mainly throwing weapons, many elite items and class specific items. So here you can go crazy and be creative. I appreatiate any idea but there is few rules which you should follow:
you can design new uniques which already have unique version if you want
try to stay on ground, dont make crazy op items breaking game balance like +700%ed and stuff like that.
dont be afraid to design uniques for normal, its also fun not everytging need to be elite items, i will nerd for example unique Katar too
you can design also sets
keep in mind upgrades to exceptional or elite version, this could make items too op or give them new purpose on higher versions based on their stats so keep that in mind
-current game doesnt use all options, many stats can also be placed on “based on character level”
dont forget to name your items, if i will like some of your creations i will use the named you design unless its something terrible
dont forget to use min-max, as majority items have variable stats. This can highly improve range of item with their rarity. For example item with 0-100 strength. High rolls would be amazing bad low roll garbage.

Set ring: Bul’Kathos Wind.
+15% IAS
+40 mana
+15% crushing blow set bonus when wearing 2-pieces.
+25min +50max damage when wearing 3-pieces (full set).
I am not sure about which Set it would belong to so Bulkathos then… But it should have low drop chance for sure.
I miss some more IAS gear options. Rings and boots have none.
And I miss some Set ring to be excited about. So thats my reasoning…
Unique Colossus Girdle belt: Gladiator Might
Damage reduced by 15-20
Poison Length reduced by 75%
+15min Damage
+15-25max Damage
+20% FHR
Requirements reduced by 30% (129 Strength required)
There is no Unique nor Set belt version for Colossus Girdle, which would fit the gladiator theme, while need to invest a bit to Strength, and being endgame belt.
This boots to have a Star wars theme to complement Lightsabre. And a source of IAS on boots for variety. Also a unique 10-15% magic resist be handy in PvP against Necro and Hammers.
Unique Crusader gauntlets Gloves: Dark Touch
+1 Telekinesis Oskill
+15% Increased attack speed
+15% FCR
Magic damage reduced by 10-20
+30% Poison resistance
Requirements reduced by 40% (90 Strength req.)
To finish the Star wars theme with Dark side power - Telekinesis.
Also some new Throwing weapons and Javelins that have no Unique versions.
Also Barbarian helms:
Demonhorn edge to have pure defensive stats like:
200-250% Enhanced defense
Repairs 1 in 4 durability.
+25 All resistances
+20% FHR
+20% Increased block chance
+10-15 DR
+100 Attacker takes dmg
+15% Open wounds
+3-6% lifesteal
+2-4 Warcries
And Halabern Reign offering pure offensive stats to be replacement for Guilliame face.
+100% defense
+3 Combat skills
+15% Increased attack speed
+10% Crushing blow
+100-125% Enhanced damage
+100-150 Attack rating
+15% Magic find
1-3 open sockets
Thxfor ideas but i feel like colossus girdle should do more, i would not lower requirements but make it powerful worth investing points. After all its highest belt in the game.
Maybe adding Cannot be frozen and removing requirements reduction, so only 185 Strength char can wear it. But that would be like best in slot belt for any attacking char I think.
Spirit replaced every shield in the game, Enigma every armor, Grief… so who cares, Soj would still be better for ES, dual leech for melee, also there are two slots for rings.
Even angelic rings are left to rot - an angelic amulet has some value as it is quite rare - but usually by the time you have the amulet you have 10 of the rings.
There is no reason to pickup a green ring after the firstish week of ladder.
Basically a new Elite Jewelry Set designed for Vengeance Paladins but can benefit Fire/Frost Maidens, Javazons, Fire Druids, Hybrid or Fire/Cold/Lightning Sorceress and Elemental MA Assassins.
Simply put, add the text “socketed 0-X” to many uniques in the game.
Exceptional would spawn with 0-2, elite with 0-3 BASED on how popular/used they are now. Uniques that are BIS would gain NO sockets, uniques that are very close could spawn with 0-2. Elite uniques that aren’t used would spawn with up to 3!
Luckily you might be able to do something like OHm and 2x 40/15s (depending on your critical strike elsewhere) and get more.
Sadly, grief needs to be nerfed to be MORE in line with other weapons power; then buff melee’s damage via more damage from STR and better attack rating calculations.
