Deleted character

I accidentally deleted my character… sidetracked by the wife and kids rushing me to go and with my left hand full I was clicking the X with my right hand which I thought to be exit and pressed okay. Rip me … Surely it wouldn’t be too hard to make an idiot proof system for us dumbies that have done this ( I am sure I am not the only one).

If ever you find yourself asking this, you’re not the only one.

Haha it’s called the prompt you clicked ok on :joy:
Rip

I feel like legacy D2 made you type in your characters name as confirmation to delete? Or I may be mistaken.

we actually complained about this in the beta. I actually did it by accident on the last day of the beta too… i just laughed and said “well, at least it was gonna be deleted tonight anyway.”

The small cross at the bottom right of the screen, the only red icon on the screen, the icon that says DELETE when you hover over it, the icon that gives you a prompt that says ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE CHARACTER?

Pretty sure the only thing they can add is make you type in your account password, rub your tummy 3 times and pat your head 2 times just to make sure…

Nope. Same system, click delete then yes or no.

to be fair… you also get a prompt when you try to exit the game too.

There’s a giant button that says EXIT DIABLO II, so not sure how someone could confuse the two.

e/ Also, I just clicked it and it doesn’t give a prompt.

my bad, pressing escape gives the prompt.

This intrigues me. :globe_with_meridians:

The icon looks like an exit button, the icon is placed where exit buttons tends to be placed and clicking it opens a prompt reminiscent with “Are you sure you want to exit the game”?..

This is a really bad UI design.

I think they should change the red X to a DELETE button.

I’ve never seen an exit button that wasn’t located in the top-right corner of the application. I got a reply I keep posting in these threads because people can’t read I suppose. I’ll add it to an edit.

Again, from my reply further up in this thread as well:

The small cross at the bottom right of the screen, the only red icon on the screen, the icon that says DELETE when you hover over it, the icon that gives you a prompt that says ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE CHARACTER?

When you click that x, a popup appears and says “Are you sure you wish to delete this character? This will delete all versions of this character.”

You were warned, didn’t read the popup and just assumed. Sorry.

And every step of said process is interchangeable with an exit button.

Most people using computers have the process to quit a game almost automated. Click what looks like an exit button, then click the popup warning afterwards, which is precisely what OP and plenty of other players are doing.

The game should have been much clearer that the delete button is a delete button, and that you can’t accidentally click accept after accidentally clicking the delete button.

As I said, there are a ton of indicators that it is a delete button, other than literally spelling delete on the actual button.
Not sure any developer can make a program that forces humans to actually learn to read. Think there was a company one time that called it Hooked on Phonics or something…

Most people do a lot of things. In a new game that usually includes reading popups so you know what you’re doing.

I hope you two are as far away from UI design as possible…

I hope you are not involved in any job that requires basic reading and following instructions… Which is like 90% of jobs, but hopefully nothing that affects other people’s safety.
