Degrading gems and/or runes

I have been thinking about this for a long time and I believe I have a really good idea about how to implement it.
Blizzard is trying to get people to do quests that aren’t usually done more than once per character, that’s no secret.
I say use this recipe in the horadric cube: gem, horadric malus.
when you transmute, it breaks it into 2 of the lower rank. (Example: flawed Emerald + horadric malus = 2 chipped Emeralds)
You could make the flawed need malus from normal, Regular from nm and flawless and perfect from hell.
With runes it could be low range= normal, midrange= nm, HR=hell
(Example: zod + Hell dif Horadric malus = 2 Cham)
Also you can’t have more than 1 malus at a time (much like wirts leg)

What do all you think about this?

I don’t understand. Can you elaborate?

Interesting suggestion I guess, but not really sure it accomplishes much beyond making a convoluted game more convoluted

gems needed for recipes are hard to find sometimes. runes too.
Example: I need a Cham for a runeword, but I don’t have one, but I have a Zod. I can do the armorer quest, get the malus and do the recipe and bam, I have a Cham

I would say if you break something down it becomes one of a lower value.
So you can’t get 2HRs from breaking down one.

I would also say that in order to do this it should require the Ubers token

Im sure it would be a good thing for offline

For bnet you are right

I’m not even saying I’m for or against it either.
We just have to be careful with making things easier to attain
There has to be a price that’s fitting of the reward

on HR’s yeah, prolly right

Yeah you would run into something like

1 zod
Becomes 2 chams
Becomes 4 jahs
Becomes 8 bers

In theory it would actually make runes more accurately valued as the hardest to find rune, Zod, would yield the most items.

But then

It would dilute the value of runewords due to how easy it would be to attain the current ones that we have.
