Blizzard please explain why in 2023 don’t we have 21:9 ratio for a remastered game, called D2R? If you developers manage to find a solution to remastered such game as D2 surely 21:9 can’t be compared towards it’s difficulty…
Warcraft 3 reforged has 21:9 but not D2R
I’m speaking behalf on our fellow 21:9 users, please if you still have love for the game, provide us, the players, who supports your company by buying your products that pays your monthly salaries give us the 21:9 back as it were in alpha!
Thanks

I support this request, people with better hardware should enjoy this advantage.

It’s 2023 and companies use this ratio in their games, it provides a little if not more emersive gameplay!
part of the problem is that enemy UI and skills with no distance like “teleport” or blizzard/ meteor, even disappearing projectiles.
the amount of work it would take to restrict skills form casting that far wouldn’t be worth the effort.
the game was originally design for 640x480… im happy we finally got normal widescreen

The 21:9 ratio was fine during alpha testing for single player and multiplayer. The main problem started with pvp (the minority) of D2R player base due to the unfairness of the 21:9 ratio vs their outdated monitors.
However, D2 might be an old game it was remastered for modern system right? Or is it, well not really. The fact is, warcraft 3 was 4:3 ratio and with the reforged 21:9
The 21:9 ratio was in D2R, and it worked, but this is blizzard for you…
i would hardly call my 3840x2160 144hz monitor “out of date”
16:9 is the standard not 21:9
and its just does not fit for d2, pvp or not
the skills are designed as line of sight, they didn’t add ranges
they extended this with 800x600 in LOD, and then even more to 16:9
being able to see and teleport nearly TWICE the distance sideways over vertically
this is the base lod 800-600 in 4x3
you can view a more widescreen version here
it makes no sense to make it “even wider”

16:9 is statistically a standard. Even in cinematography, when filming at specific aspect ratios, they get standardized in cinemas and on home media players which is why you get those black borders.
in multiplayer games, having additional screen space can equate to having an advantage. As for enabling black borders for non standard resolutions, that can be complicated. What your essentially asking is for modularization of the view port, which literally dictates what gets processed and remembered.

I actually bought D2R for the 21:9 ratio and during alpha it was, to me an emersive experience which to some may not make sense due to they don’t have 21:9.
They could of added an option in setting for 21:9 offline or just make it by default that your screen scale towards 16:9 during pvp. This is just a slap in my face and to those owing 21:9
To make matters worse, D4 is compatible with 21:9 only in gameplay not in cut scenes, so yeah maybe the 21:9 is blizzards nemesis lol.
Anyway, I would love 21:9 for D2R and I’m sure owners of 21:9 would too…

No to this, this will not only be huge buff to builds using range skill to make gap between melee/range bigger, but it would be basicly game breaking because game systems werent designed for such big field of view.

It’s perfectly fine to have your preference Zax. But owners of 21:9 have their preference too. It’s 2023, and games should cover a wide range of ratio for their player bases. If you enjoy 16:9 or whatever that is ok, but if people enjoy 21:9 don’t dash their preference.
During the alpha it worked fine, and I’m sure it’s not a fraction hard to make it work vs their remastered attempt.

You dont get it, its not matter of preference. I would prefer to have wider screen but reality is that game wasnt designed that, game systems werent designed for that and it would be basicly game breaking.
No it werent and thats why it was removed…

One can only hope they will implement that feature!
yes they should… however this game was not made in 2023… this game was made in 2000
what seem to completely fail to understand is games in 2023 are DESIGNED around these kinda of graphics… 3d models… enemy AI ranges for spells ETC.
this game was not designed to work with that much view range… and sure " viewing" wont be an issue… the problem is you can “click” and cast spells in that range.
the larger your screen you are going to encounter issues with particles simply dissapearing, enemy AI simely not responding to being attack at all… enemy just not moving at all
because the core game is just flat out not designed to do these things because it never needed to because you would never be able to see these things.
there was no need to animate monsters, draw projectiles or make it so they react to damage past a certain range.
sure making the game just be “VIEWED” in the 21:9 resolution would be a simple fix.
having it “work” in the 21:9 resolution is not something blizzard is going to do.
d2:R is simply running an overlay. its not new code, this games code is 24+ years old.
blizzard has made the design decision to disable these higher resolutions because the game flat out does not function properly at these resolutions.
i have absolutely no love for blizzard… im not trying to defend them.
im pissed they took away the !text and the removal of chat filter option that was in beta that VV clearly put in. im pissed they are doing nothing to address the spambots in lobby or the botting from asia spelling over to NA and EU realms and runing the economy.
but i agree with blizzard removing the option to view things outside of the range that the game functions properly.

I do understand these matters, it would of just been nice to have them implemented and I’m sure they have the time and skills to rightfully do so.
What is very, very disturbing to me is warcraft 3 is also an old game like Diablo 2, yet their remastered version do support 21:9
Diablo 4 support 21:9 in gameplay and not fully in their cutscenes some 16:9 and some 21:9 which I’d find strange since it’s a modern game.
Blizzard is dead, actually blizzard north made them successful and they are living in their shadows lol…

no, they absolutely do not.
certain changes are easy fixes.
altering the enemy AI, game draw distances. is something i would not trust the current blizzard to EVER do
d2 is written in C and assembly.
now i obviously don’t know which parts do what… but even C is rarely used today.
assembly has near non-existent use outside of OS and drivers these days.
i would be surprised if even VV touched the assembly portions of the code.
you are asking them to change the base code… and not the overlay… or some skill or item editing in simple .txt files
i would not want them even going NEAR that code.

I’ve beaten this game with all classes and in hardcore mode with crazy restrictions. So I’m not sure where you get your mindset that I want the game to be easier? Absolutely nothing wrong by wishing for the 21:9 when you have such monitor.
Nope. Hardware screen ratio equalization in this game is extremely necessary in providing an equal playing field for the trading market or PVP. Adding this support would essentially be a psychological pay to win addition to the game, and a partial maphack.
