Dear Blizzard: quest rewards

Let’s talk about Act V, quest 2

Reward in normal: Ral Ort Tal - okay, cool
Reward in nightmare: Ral Ort Tal - really?
Reward in hell: Ral Ort Tal - WHY?

This can be improved. For real.

OK, so heres my thought on this:

Normal: Tal Ral Ort… Bam, all three, Ancients Pledge. Or if you already have Ancients Pledge, runes that can be put to use to make Insight or Spirit later.

Nightmare: Sol Shael Dol… Gives a Sol to help make the Insight or Lore, Shael to help make Treachery, and a Dol to take up space until you can cube it and two others up to a Hel rune.

Hell: Lum Ko Fal… Gives Lum to help make the Smoke runeword, Ko as a part of Wealth. Or the Fal and Lum to make Lionheart.

Ral + Ort + Tal on all difficulties is somewhat lacking in creativity. An alternative would also be to put a cap on a certain rune and the 3 runes of the reward would be random as in hellforge quest.

The only “problem” (not really a problem) is that Blizz should change the dialogue from Qual-Kehk to the reward because not all runes are for a shield lol

Thank you for rescuing my men. They have spoken well of your bravery in battle. Perhaps there is hope for us after all.

If you wish, you may hire some of my mercenaries that you’ve saved. And please…take this set of runes. I had been saving them for a socketed shield, but I think you’ll make better use of them.

Be sure to set them in the right order for their fullest effect.

If they were to alter the rune rewards in nightmare and hell, they can simply omit everything after “take this set of runes.” in nightmare and hell difficulties. Unless they really want to hire a voice actor that is.

Here’s an idea that would leave the dialog intact.

Nightmare reward: Ko Ko Mal
Hell reward: Io Jah Pul

Is it a bad idea to have Jah as a quest reward?

Yes, it is very bad. People would be running characters repeatedly just to farm the quest. Definitely not a good thing.

I see your point there.

Ral Ort Tal are good for building Insight and Spirit, items that maintain value, and in the case of Insight, can be upgraded into a better base. I think it’s fine to keep it as is.
Thematically, Tal+Thul+Ort+Amn for NM and Hel+Amn+Nef for the Hell quest would be cool.

Should have plenty of these low runes by the time you are in the final act of nightmare or hell. I usually do.

In theory, I think it would be fine to give Io Jah Pul in Act V Hell. At that point, you are damn near the end of the game. The only thing this would hurt is the current “economy” system… but why should Blizz care about that, unless they are in on it.

TMNT - Fast Forward season ?

Ral: Insight,caster amy crafting,repair armor
Tal: Insight&Spirit rune
Ort: Spirit rune

for NM…in addition to those 3…why not add “Thul” “Amn” “Sol” and “io”

for Hell difficulty…only Lum as a bonus…other mid-runes would be too big of a gift

Ort also repairs weapons.

So, a quest reward from the final act of Hell difficulty would be too big?

I mean, really, where are we going after Act V?

I vote for Jah Ith Ber :upside_down_face:

Gather 'round, children. Allow me to tell you the story of why it is the way it is.

Back when LoD came out, runes were a brand new thing. So Blizzard decided to make a quest that just gave you a basic runeword for free to kinda teach players how runewords worked. They just never changed the runes on a per-difficulty basis.

Fixed

But hell is not that hard at all

I really like this idea. Ko and Fal also helps with Obedience, which can be a great progression item, although I guess you’d really rather be building it at the end of NM/early Hell vs. Act 5 Hell.

True although he does say he was saving them for a shield but that we might make better use of them, doesn’t say we’d make better use of the end product shield, so I think they could probably get away with little to no changes there. As Jedi says, you could just truncate some of it so as not to have to do more voice acting. By NM and Hell people are probably at the point that they’re just clicking past the dialog anyway, so probably not a huge issue either way :stuck_out_tongue:

Do Casters really need more of a leg up than they already have over melee characters?

Terrible idea in fact. People would multibox rushes all day long. It would break the entire economy. I think you might have the single worst idea I’ve ever heard anyone make concerning D2 in 20+ years.

I mean if nothing else it’s impressive for being so bad.

There would be absolutely no reason to multibox rushes. For what???

Multibox for a fal at hell? NM forge can give you better than that…

I was replying to this comment.

Obviously this is an insanely horrible idea. A quest reward giving Jah… good lord that’s hilarious. Lol.

I’m honestly hoping the guy was trying to make a joke or something. Otherwise… man…
