I believe an error occurred when I saved and exited the game. I came back to it saying my character was dead. All my armor is still equipped on my character, which I haven’t deleted to show proof that my character never fell.

This used to happen back when D2 was new with the Hardcore Mode! Join the proud crowd, only to exit a game not knowing your character is still in your last location on Battlenet & taking damage! It sucks, & there will apparently never be a fix for it.
If you’re going to go hardcore, you must ALWAYS take your character back to “town” before exiting a game.
Hoping to just quit to save your characters life will almost always result in that characters death!
Also know that if you’re playing Hardcore you’ve got to level the crap out of your character before doing the dangerous stuff if you want to stay alive! It can be grindy but also worth it to boast a Lvl 99 Hardcore!

I have the same problem today. I made the run, I click safe and exit and then communication error- then char is dead… lvl 89 full equipt with Hoto max, Cta… ID: DumanBG#2592
