You really should have noticed by now how amazing D2R’s core systems are compared to your “new” Diablo 4. If you would have spent 1/100s of the resources that you spent on D4 to improve D2R, you literally would have a game that is perfect.
There is a reason why D2R is still being played. I wonder how long it takes for you to understand.
EDIT:
People have mentioned its due to Nostalgia.
Well this is not true. I have thousands of hours in D3 and currently over 600 hours in D4 and yet I still think D2 is better because of its core systems.
With “Core Systems” I mean the better map design, itemization and skills. Basically the things we all as ARPG fans care about. The actual core of the game. Of course D2 has its flaws but we play this game because its still fun, even with its flaws (and there are many). This is the point though. In my humble opinion, D2 could be so much more than a good game with some minor changes.
I know we won’t see any meaningful changes anymore but hope is always there.
It may be the better game, but it is not the better seller. This is like comparing GR86 sales with Corolla sales… the Corolla easily outsells the GR86 but for people that like driving, the latter is the much better choice while most people just want basic transportation so the former is what’s popular. Doesn’t mean one needs to be like the other. The gameplay from d2/d2r is too niche, it doesn’t attract the biggest crowd but isn’t that ok?
By “core systems”, I assume you mean things like constantly going to the lobby to create/join games, forever playing alone (or having your loot stolen, take your pick), having griefers wreck your string of Baal runs, item mules and rushing toons for one time quest rewards (that should be repeatable), and of course not even checking 90% of the loot that drops.
Bla bla bla… .no, I assume he mean the great gameplay, the randomes maps, bosses, afixes, etc. The great loot, even to find a good base for a runeword is a great quest.
They would also earn 1/100000000000 of the money. Even though there are d2 fans who love the game. It wont touch the profit d4 is making even if they spend more resources on it.
D3 is also being played. There are ppl who like those games. And there will ppl playing d4 in years to come aswell.
i mean, you could argue d2 isn’t perfect with how some things work. but it’s definitely a better game overall than d4. just the itemization in d4 puts it as a f tier game.
Not really. Yes some really play it because of nostalgia but thats just few people. Most of D2R player base are people who play many years, not because of nostalgia , but because D2 is simply great game. And yes its addictive, because its good! You wont get addictive to garbage boring game.
It’s not entirely nostalgia. D2 is still unparalleled when it comes to many aspects such as atmosphere, lore, and itemization. And itemization can make or break an ARPG.
If D4 was actually a good game, we would all be over there. The fact is that it’s a sham of a game and most D2 players know that.
All of these other ARPG clones are particle simulators. They over compensate for their lack of art design, lore, and atmosphere. And that’s how most D2 mods end up looking.
