Hi,
As far as I know, when I open task manager, GPU 3D should be displayed as the graphics used, and if it’s GPU 0 - Copy, then the integrated GPU is being used. How do I make my 1080ti be the chosen graphics card to be used when running d2r?
I also see that my CPU is at 40% when running d2r.
1080ti has latest drivers,
i9
1080ti
32gb ram
win 10
1tb ssd
any help appreciated
thanks
In the Nvidia Control Centre you can force the “OpenGL -rendered GPU” for specific games or globally under 3D- Settings.
Sorry it is in german but you should be able to find the different tabs just from the picture.

Make sure your monitor is connected to the GPU (like physically, the cable). Just trying to help.

About your CPU.
From what i’ve heard the game is heavier on the CPU. My i7 is also spiking at 35-45% quiet regularly.
does this require a restart? I changed it from auto select to using my 1080ti
I am not sure if it is required to restart your PC. But if you do it won’t hurt.
good to know, is it true that GPU - 0 Copy in task manager means integrated graphics card? you want the GPU 3D to be listed right?
GPU 0 is somewhat meaningless unless you have 2 GPUs.
Usually the name of the graphics card is stated below GPU 0.
What’s being listed there? Your 1080 ti?
I don’t think that is the correct setting, D2R does not use OpenGL, but DirectX. There should be a similar setting though, where you can force a certain GPU globally or per game basis. Some games also let you choose in game. Unfortunately I have to leave for work now so I don’t have time to fire up my laptop, but if you look around the NVIDIA control panel I’m sure you’ll find it.
You may be correct on that however i couldn’t find any other setting that is related to OPs issue.
some progams are using GPU 3D, others are using GPU 0 Copy
Im assuming GPU 3D is my 1080ti
and GPU 0 Copy is just integrated GPU in the CPU?
My PC may be a bad example because my onboard card is not being used, nor is it listed anywhere except in the Device Manager.

That’s how it looks for me when the game is running…
I also found CUDA - GPUs setting, which i also changed to use my 1080ti
I highly doubt that CUDA ( Compute Unified Device Architecture) is being used in D2R.
Ok, I found it now.
If you open the Nvidia Control Panel and go to ‘Manage 3D Settings’ you will find an option on top of the global setting tab called ‘Prefered Graphics Processor’. Make sure this is set to ‘High Performance NVIDIA Processor’ and NOT ‘Integrated Graphics’.
This will be the global setting used for all apps and games that do not have their own custom setting. Under the program tab you can also configure this option on a per program/game basis.
Hope this helps.
Yeah, that should probably do it.
Laptops commonly default to using integrated gpu for everything to save power. If OP is using a laptop setting it to always use the dedicated gpu instead of integrated would likely lower battery life a good bit, which is why they tend to default to integrated.
It’s pretty rare to see it happen on a desktop but I suppose it can happen on a prebuilt depending on the settings they chose when they set up windows.
