D2R runs at 35 FPS on Medium but Diablo 4 on Max runs at 100 FPS? HOW?

How is this even possible?

D4 runs amazing on my RX 590 OC 8GB with Ryzen 5600X and 32GB RAM I get 100 FPS

But D2 even with a few mobs gets 35 FPS sometimes down to 20 FPS in team fights.

Weak hardware is why.

I have a 1080Ti in my home PC, and D2:R can make it sweat… Especially any areas with grass. And even more so if I run anything higher than 60FPS. As long as there is no grass and I keep the FPS in-game locked at 60, the card barely gets warm.

Same story with my work PC… It’s got a 1070.

D4 is a ground up game… It’s easier to optimize things. D2:R is a new wrapper around a 23 year old game. It’s not as easy to optimize things.

I can get 60fps on med/high on a laptop rtx 3050 4gb (no dlss using taa).

Set character details to low. Vfx lightig/effects to med or low (can crash games with all the sins running around).
Its a huge performance hog.

Took me hours of tweaking to get the game to run good. Capping the game at 60-62fps seems to work for a lot of people.

D2R is very, very, very poorly optimizd.

I’ve got an AMD FX 8320 and a 2070 and D2R runs amazing. Runs better than Torchlight 2, Grim Dawn, PoE. The only thing that can cause framerates to drop is poison creeper vines.

D2R is a graphical layer put on top of a 20 year old game.

D2R has a major issue with any GPU with Boost Clock capabilities that aren’t controlled by a third-party 'don’t f* boost clock from 1292Mhz to >1500Mhz.
nVidia are terrible with this.
Their DX12 implementation is probably coded poorly.

Yea i had to drop max performance from the nvidia panel (which overclocks it). It seems the game will eat up all your vram if you give it the opportunity to do so

i mean… is that really true though? or are they not trying.

LOD can EASILY be run on a raspberry pi, the actual requirements of d2 arn’t an issue here.

there is a way to extract the files for fast load times… do they give us an offical option for that that wont cause visual bugs? no they don’t.

d2:R is the way it is becuase they arn’t trying.
and its obvoius… because the state of the game lobby.

they didn’t try to fix chat, to make lobbies, they just made a half-donkeyed attempt at prting the d3 system over.

the issue isnt skills its the fundamental management choices.
they aren’t putting effort into this

I mean I put this PC together for $1200. I have to throttle it to 144 fps on Max setting excluding resolution scaling. It runs better than most games that have came out in the last 6 years or so, and better than anything I actively play other than something like Gunfire Reborn.

Frankly I think D2R looks better than D4. D4 looks blurry and has terrible visual clarity if you ask me.

Well D2R looks so much better than D4. D4 looks so washed out.

Could it be possible that D2R just had better graphics than D4 and hence why it needs much more GPU power to run?

I don’t think anyone will deny that D4 has good graphics, but D2:R also has impressive visuals. Just different art styles I guess.

My 11 year old backup machine can run D2R - most of it is way below minimum req specs, but it runs at 60 fps most of the time. Okay, it will cough after boss fights like the flaming inferno after Andy or Shenk, and as I farm those a lot I always run in minimum settings.
AMD 4170 (4350 is required, but it’s the same type of processor, same amount of cache, cores, speed, everything), 16 GB ram, GF 650 TI 1 GB (660 2 GB is required)

No tricks, no modified drivers or anything.

Weird… my 3070 rig can pull 200+ fps max in D2R at 1440p… Meanwhile D4 hardly stays up from crashes and hardly reaches 100 fps >,>
