There, I said it. This kind of backwards “just level a new character” grognard thinking does not hold up in 2021. I shouldn’t have to read a billion guides before I play the game just so I don’t waste my time as a new player.

I mean how hard is it to save that respec from act1 until you’re actually ready to spend 2mins reading a guide for your class to see which builds are more viable …

Also this^. Tokens of absolution offers unlimited respecs when you farm for them. Essence drops are very common too. Just have to get one character to Hell to farm them for all of your characters.

It already has them… you simply have to actually EARN them past the first 3.
You get 3 respecs (1 for quest completion in each difficulty) + unlimited respecs from essences from bosses in Hell.
If in the first 3 respecs you didn’t bother to spend 15 minutes to do a quick research or planning then you really didn’t care…
Just as I thought, no real reason why we shouldn’t be able to respec for gold or something. Not everyone has days of their life to spend endlessly grinding out a new character or grinding out rare drops in hell difficulty.
This is actually a massive power increase. Part of the difficulty of D2 is having a build that can handle many different scenarios. It is very hard for pure cold sorc to deal with cold immune. If you allow unlimited easy respecs you destroy this balance. Not to mention you eliminate the need to make more than one of each class. Why have a dedicated poison necro and summon necros when one toon can switch between the two builds? Besides, there already IS unlimited respecs, you just have to git gud.

It’s not that people don’t read how to build their toon, it’s building the perfect toon with 156 strength for their Spirit Monarch, then 10 days later getting an anni or torch. Now you’re 20 over in strength with no respecs left. That’s why you need unlimited respecs. Maybe you’ve played a lightning Sorc and you’re bored with it at level 90. Change to a Meteorb for a change. Lot’s of reasons to respec. It’s not just people not researching their character build.
You’ve got “unlimited respecs” via the Tokens of Absolution.
And you get one respec per difficulty level.

Hey. It’s a remaster of an older, epic game.
It holds up just fine. You get the same advice that many Dark Souls complainers get - GIT GUD.
D2R needs unlimited respecs or an increased character limit so you can have mules and an alt for each build in the game.
I think it’s fine as-is, but this is coming from a D2 vet that knows how to properly spec builds and often doesn’t even need to use Akara’s respec at all. I understand that new players would prefer an easier time with respecs, but I honestly think they should just accept D2 is more strict about building a character and should - at the very least - read some build guides and get a rough idea of the do’s and don’ts of stat and skill distribution. For me, part of the reason I love D2 so much is creating those super powerful and specific builds from scratch, rather than just rerolling my character into whatever I want at any time. Granted, you could argue that gear would be a limitation with easy respec since while you can do it all you want, your Bowzon is not going to suddenly be as effective as your Javzon you worked on because you lack a proper gear setup. But still, I stick to my original line of thinking.
It has what you ask for already. Unlimited ability to farm unlimited Tokens, to respec unlimitedly. Hope it works out.
