D2:R needs 1024x768 resolution setting for classic graphics

Hi Devs,

D2:R needs a 1024x768 (or greater) resolution setting for classic graphics.

I know almost all players would play D2:R with ‘resurrected’ graphics, but the classic option’s maximum resolution of 800x600 looks awful on today’s monitors.

Happy to discuss.

It needs a windowed mode for Legacy** as well - i really liked that with Diablo 2 LoD.

Agree, definitely needs more legacy graphics options including “start in legacy graphics” it’s really quite annoying to get the nostalgia itch and play with the old graphics for a few games but you always have to toggle it. A minor annoyance to be sure, but still.

How awful of them to make you push one button for your eyes to bleed. How dare they…

I don’t like how fps greatly drop when switching to legacy

I know, it’s silly, but it seems trivial to simply add a “start in legacy mode” option, or whatever. I mean, imagine how annoying it would be if they had done it the other way around, where you only get the legacy graphics and have to toggle every single game to activate the resurrected mode graphics. It’d get pretty tiresome after awhile, right? I think that if they ever do improve legacy mode options, this is definitely something they should look into adding as well. Of course, I don’t expect anything :upside_down_face:

it can’t they wouldn’t be the classic graphics then they would need to remake every sprite in the game and all the backgrounds, even 800x600 was a hack job all they did was zoom out the camera.

640x480 is the resolution the games art was made for if they remade all that it wouldn’t be the old graphics any more.

the old game has to play at 25fps theirs no other option because everything was built on it including the animations.

One need only look at the final fantasy remasters to see the woes of trying to bring pixel art to higher resolutions.

This just simply isnt true, before D2R launched everyone playing D2 LoD played with higher resolutions. Like you can go install D2 LoD right now even and makes sure the plugin is set to Glide (just like you can in D2R settings) and boom you can have much higher resolutions, and thats how everyone plays.
There are also D2 mods (I know, bad) that actually brings up the resolution to 4K and its beautiful.
The fact is its not something new at all and they purely set their resolutions on the legacy toggle to the bare minimum of how it was when D2 very first launched a million years ago to make the remaster look “Exaggeratingly” better.

I agree here.
It needs more resolution options.

I use the 600x resolution on ps4 to stay zoomed in lol

glide didn’t have resolution options. anything any kind of renderer had was upscaling or stretching, which is not what the thread is asking for

debatable. the original game is 2d so higher resolutions means you get to see much more, which is a significant advantage. at anything close to FHD, you can see monsters before they can see you and kill them without having to interact with them, which just ruins the game

fun little conspiracy theory, but theyve gone back and updated the classic graphics after d2r released to make it look better (originally it was d3d only, but they swapped it to glide (or added glide support, one of the two). so not sure if that theory stands up knowing that bit of information

1024x768 might be okay and not give any advantage, it would have to be equal (or near to it) with wahtever the current graphics give in terms of wide screen viewage

I just wish they’d fix the wall transparency in places like Trav on the new graphics. Sad that I have to turn on Classic graphics just to see the last council member half the time.
