D2R Freezes My Entire Computer

While playing, the screen freezes in place and stops my entire computer.

So far I have

  • Updated all my drivers
  • Reinstalled my Nvidia graphics drivers (but not done a clean install)
  • Disabled HID-compliant headset driver that was giving me errors in event-viewer
  • Run System file checker tool to repair Windows Corrupted files
  • Run MSERT to search for Malware and Viruses deep in the computer

The error I get in event viewer is Error 41 Kernel-Power, but this is basically just telling me that I hit the power button to restart my computer. Yep, I sure did. Otherwise I don’t have information on what is causing this.

I can launch Project Diablo 2 Mod and play just fine.

In BIOS my CPU is at 65 degrees C. This is pretty hot but I don’t think this is excessively overheating.

Should post DXDIAG dump or list what CPU u have + PC Specs

I was meaning to do this but I couldn’t put it into my post as a quote which is what I wanted to do. I should have just put it into pastebin initially.

That being said, here it is.

dxdiag

You have quiet a few errors like those and there were several reports that they lead to system freezes. Those errors are related to some USB headsets. In your case it’s your HyperX headset.
Try using different USB ports with your headset and see if the problem still persists. Some headsets don’t work with USB 3.0 for no apparent reason. Additionally try to update any drivers you may find for the headset.

Hope that helps

This is what I was working on trying to fix the problem with, and after updating my drivers there were still crashes.

But as of a couple days ago the crashes stopped. I imagine it’s either dumb luck or the driver updating helped, it just had to coincide with some other update I don’t know.

The reports of this problem were from Feb. 2021, so it might have been the driver update that ultimately fixed the problem. Still i am glad you found a solution to your problem.
Enjoy the game!

I’ve experienced the same thing the last 2 days.

Entire pc freezes and requires a hard reboot to recover only to find my character is dead.

Happened once in frozen tundra, happened once in ancients.
