My D2R installation can crash from opening the game (even before the intros) to after entering my online character and walking around the city, but I have no idea why it crashes since no crash report opens.
Everything was fine today, I stopped playing some hours ago and after trying to boot the game this crashing behavior started. I didn’t installed or updates any software or driver in the meantime and also didn’t rebooted or shut the computer down.
Did someone had the same problem or could suggest some fixes? I had a similar problem on windows 10, but I thought it was due to some hard drive errors and just gave up on it and changed to a new nvme and windows 11 fresh install (less than a month ago)
Things I tried that didn’t work:
Rebooting
d2r error scanning via battle.net launcher
clean d2r install on a different folder (and even on a different drive)
reinstalled the battle.net app
reinstalled nvidia driver (now at 497.29 from December 20th) and installed an windows 11 update
removed all files from C:\Users<username>\Documents\Diablo II
uninstalled skype since it was giving a MoAppHang in the windows error report
tried to run the game in windows 11 safe mode with network, still crashes
used Driver Display Uninstaller as the moderator suggested to uninstall the video driver and reinstalled by hand
toned graphics down and limited the fps to 60 ingame and through nvidia control center due to imense use of gpu (96~99% most of the time)
tried to play in legacy mode view (G key)
tested again in my old windows 10 installation with a different d2r installation path for each OS, still crashes
turned overlays off (nvidia and discord)
playing in different resolutions and windowed
running d2r.exe as an administrator
left at least 50gb free on each disk (30gb recommended)
ran razer cortex to cut down other processes during game execution
I’m having similar issues. Ever since the mini update my game just randomly crashes. I’ve tried most of the things you have plus turning down graphic settings. The only thing I can do to get the crash to stop is to play in legacy mode.
This appears to be a Blizzard issue (judging by the number of posts that are popping about it). I’m sure they’ll blame it on everyone else’s hardware before they attempt to fix anything.
I was waiting for it to download and install here to test it again, but it from the times that I could select the character and enter in a game changing into legacy mode didn’t do the trick unfortunately.
What bugs me the most is that the same error is haunting me across 2 OS installations, but yeah, seems that I’ll have to wait for a fix from their side for however long it takes.
From a moderator’s post here in the forum it seems windows 11 is officially supported by d2r and from my experience crashed way less than with my old windows 10 installation. No popups, even the blizzard crash report one, just closes the game and goes to the launcher/desktop.
What is odd for me was the lack of change in my machine, played for 1~2 hours and then went to watch some youtube, came back and all hell broke loose. So the uninstall all drivers and install them again doesn’t seem to be a solution, since nothing changed in the meantime.
I get the update graphics warning at start up. everything is up to date. game runs perfectly fine but crashes every 1-20 minutes. I do get lucky to get more time randomly. Sad thing i can play fallout 4 and dying light without crashing and fallout is king of crashing. I’m getting frustrated. game looks great runs awesome but crashing problem is killing me.
I bought D2R 2 on December 8 and I have been trying to get work ever since. I have tried a reinstall and installed the updates. My story is like the others un this thread. I get to a blank char screen.
