D2R Crashing on Start-up

Tried booting up D2R today. I’m getting an “applicaiton encountered an unexpected error” message and ReportID. The game was working perfectly yesterday. I’ve checked the video card drivers, direct x, any updates that the computer needs, nothing different from yesterday. I also ran the “scan and repair” and “check for updates” on the battle net launcher, both say there are no issues.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I downloaded D2R yesterday and have gone through all of the same steps. I also went to properties and selected to open as administrator. I have re-installed the game several times, tried different networks, disabled my firewall/anti-virus. I did notice at one point when I reinstalled that the program files were empty except for 2 text files, but that error has not reoccurred.

if You guys are absolutely sure your hardware isn’t faulty ( as being able to play one day and unable to play on the next one, where the game didn’t undergo absolutely no updates on the client side may give you a hint your ssd or ram are faulty)…

however if you’ve eliminated RAM or the SSD to be the cause… you may try updating your VC++ libraries…

those are mandatory to run any modern directX game… if you haven’t installed any then you probably have the ones that came with D2R as an additional install… if you don’t have any then google:
techpowerup VC++ all in one and download them from techpowerup…
VC++ underwent an update rrecently that may have not reached techpowerup bundle…
so after installation open command prompt as administrator and issue a checkup by:
winget upgrade
if there are updates issue:
winget upgrade --all
if winget command is not recognized open microsoft store go to updates and update everything there is to update… ( make sure “package installer” gets updated to the latest version ), after that the winget command should be recognizable in cmd… now you may do what i wrote earlier…

if this still doesn’t help seek professional help with your windows install as you’ve probably botched the patch installation from recent patch tuesday in previous week, by either force shutting down your system when they were installing, or some other way… anyways if you seek help here to play D2R you don’t have what it takes to handle fixing botched windows installations, so You’ll likely end up seeking help of proffesional PC service…

My circumstance is a bit different because I only just downloaded d2r… it has never opened for me. I went ahead and downloaded everything from techpowerup and followed your instructions but that didn’t seem to help. My Victus Gaming Laptop 16-r0xxx is only 2 years old and seems to have 32gb ram. I was told when i bought it that it had a ssd, but maybe it just has the ability to install one?. Does professional help seem like the route to go?

Your laptop seems fine spec wise… so the oly thing needed i wuld recommend is to update graphic card drivers, and set windows to use that nvidia…

chances are you haven’t set windows to use nvidia sa the gpu for diablo 2 resutrrected… and to complicate matters your laptop may come with only a single ram bank, in which case your integrated gpu acts as if it was few generations weaker ( you have intel IrsXe however it only wworks in dual channel memory, with single channel it behaves as intel UHD… those are still capable of running the game on minimal settings however require a signifcant driver update…

so regardless of what you do update your intel and nvidia drivers first… Intel DSA is recommended to perform the update, since i you have an intel wifi/bluetooth… it checks and updates those as well ( that is if you have intel wifi, since chances are you have mdia tek chip according to specifcation, as both get mounted inside your model).

when you do the above and it still doesn’t work write so, we’ll investigate agin.

crazy i have also just started having these issues and have never had them before.

Please do not derail this thread i’ll engage in a conversation in the new thread yu’ve already created… let’s continue there.and leave this thread for me and the other guy shall we?

Hey Leslaw, I updated drivers to no success. I was able to download nvcleaninstalls version 537.58 as 537.70 was not available. Unfortunately that did not work for me…I really appreciate all the effort you are putting into this.
