D4 is garbage.
D2R could generate way more money with seasonal content.
Prove otherwise.

Fan base even at launch for D2R was tiny AF.
New content would only bring a small amount of new players, and in no way could compete with D4’s playerbase even if most of D4’s playerbase has dropped that game.
This game is stuck in the past which is fine, but most of those who went in on D4 wouldn’t come to D2.
No matter the effort D4 is a better investment for use of time. If only one game is getting seasonal content and they dedicated the same exact resources to whichever was the ONE game, D4 clears hands down with ease.
This is a single player game masquerading as a multi-player game.
Long ago they destroyed any need to play the game as a party.
I’ll be honest here, they HAD a winning formula for a multi-player game until they destroyed it by allowing 1 character to wipe an entire screen in an 8 player game in Hell.
It’s still a great single player game.
It’s still a great multi-player game if you play the game like LLama does.
It’s a joke otherwise - certainly nothing to think they could make a killing by continuing to maintain it.
How naive are you? Compare sales and accept it, games like d2/d2r are for a vocal minority of gamers. Businesses generally go for products that have the widest appeal possible. Blizz could pour millions into this game and it still would never come close to generating even a fraction of what immortal does…
But this isn’t anything new. Britney Spears has sold more albums than Dream Theater, the Toyota Corolla is way more popular than one of their best driving cars with the Toyota 86, you can find examples from everywhere…most awesome things have pretty limited appeal but make it simplified and ta dah now you have more people to consume your goods…
D2:R is a buy once, play as much as you want game… If “Seasonal content” were to be something that we would be required to pay for, then Blizzard would effectively be forcing us into a subscription based platform.
Do I smell the hint of a class action suit? Yes I do.
Proven… Hook, line, sinker.
/thread
No - you’d still have the game you paid for. No one would be “forcing” you to buy the battle pass/season/whatever.
That said, there is no universe where d2r makes more money than d4.
Hey… D2:R is a remaster…
Does the original game have paid seasonal content? Nope.
Again, /thread.
But, that would call for recognition and effort of both accomplishment [D2/D2R] and absolute and utter failure [D4].
Once, admitted, the path is clear.
with a horde of simps giving you any gear you ask for?
No, it isn’t. It was supposed to be a live service game with updates coming from community feedback according to the original dev interview.
It is resurrected, not remastered. Broodwar had a remaster which was only a facelift and that is great. Here we were promised something else which we paid for and were then lied to… It doesn’t matter if you like or prefer the current situation more, the point is still that this state was NOT meant to be and it is foolish to pretend otherwise.
It is what we (the player base) wants it to be.
As long as its better, its wins.
I (the player base) want clear communication
There’s the bell…
Chicken Little is on standby…
no it cant, it’s not a problem of quality, yes D2 is better than D4 but this is not the point: D4 is created around the “fomo” and “player engaging” concept, blizzard make 99% of money with microtransaction and cosmetics, blizzard could give you D4 for free and for them it wouldn’t be a big loss, of course they will never give it to you for free for marketing reasons (anything free is perceived by users as something of low quality).
I wish we had real numbers other than word of mouth.
But how is d4 community big now?
If you add skins to D2R maybe yes but no thank you.
Same but they hide it because there was a downward trend in a lot of what they were doing. It is the same reason you cannot accurately discern current playerbase.
If you’re spending let’s just pretend a million dollars on an update, it doesn’t matter even if two playerbases are the same currently for a game. It is which base product has the highest number of sales, and also probably the newest game as well if you think about it. Because that is just a much higher potential return and likely the newest of the game will still have more hype around it.
I would assume the D4 hype fell off hard though, but I would also guess that it has a larger playerbase even right now. I’m with you in that I think a lot of the older games are better than the newly released trash, but that doesn’t stop most people. They just want a new game and I kind of get it.
Its kinda fun the first 2-3 maybe 4 weeks of a new ladder season, have a good amount of people to play with, after the first couple 99s then it goes back to a ghost town and might as well go back to single player or non ladder till next season.
Progression and optimization is too fast. Bots flood the market with near best gear very quickly. There is no real end game. 99 race was always a joke, but now it is even moreso. PvP was never that great, now it is worse. And yeah I find just grinding to be pretty fun, but there is nothing really to keep you super invested.
